the world simply don't believe that we're so good? What if they
have come to the bizarre conclusion that saturation bombing, invasion,
occupation, destruction of homes, torture, depleted uranium, killing
a hundred thousand, and daily humiliation of men, women and children,
do not indicate good intentions?"

"America is today the leader
of a world-wide anti-revolutionary movement in the defense of
vested interests. She now stands for what Rome stood for. Rome
consistently supported the rich against the poor in all foreign
communities that fell under her sway; and, since the poor, so
far, have always and everywhere been far more numerous than the
rich, Rome's policy made for inequality, for injustice, and for
the least happiness of the greatest number."
Arnold Toynbee,1961
"Coming to grips with U.S./CIA
activities in broad numbers and figuring out how many people have
been killed in the jungles of Laos or the hills of Nicaragua is
very difficult. But, adding them up as best we can, we come up
with a figure of six million people killed-and this is a minimum
figure. Included are: one million killed in the Korean War, two
million killed in the Vietnam War, 800,000 killed in Indonesia,
one million in Cambodia, 20,000 killed in Angola ... and 22,000
killed in Nicaragua. These people would not have died if U.S.
tax dollars had not been spent by the CIA to inflame tensions,
finance covert political and military activities and destabilize
societies."
John Stockwell, CIA official in
the 1960s and 1970s
"The Plan is for the United
States to rule the world. The overt theme is unilateralism, but
it is ultimately a story of domination. It calls for the United
States to maintain its overwhelming superiority and prevent new
rivals from rising up to challenge it on the world stage. It calls
for dominion over friends and enemies alike. It says not that
the United States must be more powerful, or most powerful, but
that it must be absolutely powerful."
Vice-President Dick Cheney - lecture
at West Point, June 2002
"The US in its operations
in dozens upon dozens of countries, is violating not just international
law, but US law. Here are four US laws currently on the books:
There can be no US weapons used for aggression. That's the old
Harkin amendment.
There can be no US aid for foreign internal security forces of
any kind. That's Section 660 of the 1974 Foreign Assistance Act.
There can be no US military aid for any regime that engages in
a pattern of gross human rights violations. That's 22 US Code
2304(a).
There can be no US aid for any military unit that commits atrocities.
That's the Leahy amendment. Now, these are not radical political
demands; these are existing US law. And the US systematically
violates its own laws, not to mention the murder laws of local
countries."
journalist Allan Nairn, 2010
"The American elite's unbounded,
unquestioned, indeed unconscious sense of imperial entitlement
and dominance - based ultimately on war, the threat of war and
the profit from war - is one of the defining characteristics of
our age. Our political and media elite cannot conceive of an end
to empire. Our elites and their courtiers cannot imagine life
without a permanent war for global dominance, fueled by a gargantuan
war machine spread across hundreds and hundreds of bases implanted
in more than 100 countries."
Chris Floyd
"Since the late 1940s,
the United States has been deliberately engaged in an imperial
project, and anyone who would hold the office of the presidency
has to be willing to serve that end. All presidents have to promote
the national security state, both domestically and in American
foreign policy, if they wish to attain and hold on to power."
Morris Berman
"Our cultivated conventions
and little lies of civility lull us into a refined and idealistic
view of ourselves. But look at our last two decades-2 million
dead in the war in Afghanistan, 1.5 million dead in the fighting
in Sudan, some 800,000 butchered in the 90-day slaughter of Tutsis
and moderate Hutus by soldiers and militias directed by the Hutu
government in Rwanda, a half-million dead in Angola, a quarter
of a million dead in Bosnia, 200,000 dead in Guatemala, 150,000
dead in Liberia, a quarter of a million dead in Burundi, 75,000
dead in Algeria, at least 600,000 dead in Iraq and untold tens
of thousands lost in the border conflict between Ethiopia and
Eritrea, the fighting in Colombia, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,
Chechnya, Sri Lanka, southeastern Turkey, Sierra Leone, Northern
Ireland, Kosovo. Civil war, brutality, ideological intolerance,
conspiracy and murderous repression are the daily fare for all
but the privileged few in the industrialized world."
Chris Hedges, 2008
"There can be no possible
justification for waging war that winds up killing and impoverishing
much of the civilian population, on whose behalf U.S. leaders
claim to fight, in violation of the laws of war and elemental
human decency. Nor can anyone who truly believes in democracy
support allowing a handful of U.S. leaders to savage civilians
abroad without even informing, let alone seeking permission of,
Congress and the American people."
Fred Branfman
"The basic and generally
agreed U.S. plan is unilateral world domination through absolute
military superiority."
Anatol Lieven, Carnegie Endowment
for International Peace
"Because the United States
does not look like a militarized country, it's hard for Americans
to grasp that Washington is a war capital, that the United States
is a war state, that it garrisons much of the planet, and that
the norm for us is to be at war somewhere at any moment."
Tom Engelhardt
"The United States has
discarded pretensions to international legality and decency, and
embarked on a course of raw imperialism run amok."
William Rockler, Nuremberg Tribunal
prosecutor
"Since the fall of the
Berlin Wall in November 1989, the Pentagon had been pursuing a
military strategy for domination of the entire planet. It was
called by the Pentagon, 'Full Spectrum Dominance' and as its name
implied, its agenda was to control everything everywhere including
the high seas air, space and even outer space and cyberspace."
F. William Engdahl
"America the benevolent
does not exist and has never existed. The United States has pilfered
large territories from helpless or near helpless peoples; it has
forced its will on scores of nations, against their wishes and
against their interests; it has violated hundreds of treaties
and understandings; it has committed war crimes as shocking as
most; it has wielded a military stick and a dollar carrot to forge
an imperialist empire such as man has never known before; it has
intervened ruthlessly in the life of dozens of nations to prevent
them from choosing the leaders they did want or overthrowing,
by revolution, the ones they didn't."
historian Sidney Lens
"The real motivation behind
US military interventions during the cold war was not Soviet deterrence
but the crushing of popular, indigenous nationalist movements
for independence, and the establishment of US control over strategic
regions."
Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed from his
book "Behind the War on Terror"
"The U.S. military acts
in the interests of the corporate and financial elite, and those
countries that do not submit to American economic hegemony are
deemed enemies, and the military is ultimately sent in to implement
"regime change."
Andrew Gavin Marshall
"The Western banking system
controls a worldwide electronic banking network. The control of
money creation at a world level constitutes the ultimate instrument
of economic and social domination... The ultimate lever of the
U.S.-NATO imperial design is to override and destroy national
currencies."
Michel Chossudovsky in the book

"Stop talking so much about
democracy and instead support dictatorships of the right if their
policies are pro-American."
U.S. Treasury Secretary George

"Through slick Madison
Avenue marketing techniques and careful study of genuine protest
movements, the US Government had perfected techniques for 'democratically'
getting rid of any opponent, while convincing the world they were
brought down by spontaneous outbursts for freedom."
F. William Engdahl
"The CIA is not now nor
has it ever been a central intelligence agency. It is the covert
action arm of the President's foreign policy advisers. In that
capacity it overthrows or supports foreign governments while reporting
"intelligence" justifying those activities... Disinformation
is a large part of its covert action responsibility, and the American
people are the primary target audience of its lies.
... The Agency's task is to develop an intemational anti-communist
ideology. The CIA then links every egalitarian political movement
to the scourge of intemational communism. This then prepares the
American people and many in the world community for the second
stage, the destruction of those movements. For egalitarianism
is the enemy and it must not be allowed to exist."
Ralph McGehee in his book "Deadly
Deceits"
"The "war on terrorism"
purports to defend the American Homeland and protect the "civilized
world". It is upheld as a "war of religion", a
"clash of civilizations", when in fact the main objective
of this war is to secure control and corporate ownership over
the region's extensive oil wealth, while also imposing under the
helm of the IMF and the World Bank, the privatization of state
enterprises and the transfer of the countries' economic assets
into the hands of foreign capital."
Michel Chossudovsky
"It would be some time
before I fully realized that the United States sees little need
for diplomacy. Power is enough. Only the weak rely on diplomacy.
The Roman Empire had no need for diplomacy. Nor does the United
States."
Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Secretary-General
of the United Nations from January 1992 to December 1996
"It is the function of
the CIA to keep the world unstable, and to propagandize and teach
the American people to hate, so we will let the Establishment
spend any amount of money on arms."

"If the Agency [CIA] actually
reported the truth about the Third World, what would it say? It
would say that the United States installs foreign leaders, arms

AXIS OF EVIL
United States, Britain and Israel
(plus Saudi Arabia, UAE, France, Australia and Canada)
"The USA and its partners
the UK and Israel have become the new Axis of Evil, a new evil
empire."
Preston James and Mike Harris,
2015
"If we are honest about
who is actually murdering and abusing people, it is the US, Israel,
and the UK. There's your "axis of evil."
Paul Craig Roberts, 2008
"We are directly responsible
for tens-of-thousands of dead people, wounded people, and millions
of displaced people. The underlying reason is that we in the UK
are hand-in-glove with the axis of evil, which is Israel, Saudi
Arabia and the USA."
UK university professor Rodney
Shakespeare, 2016
"The ironclad agreement
between Israel and Washington to war against Muslim peoples is
far stronger than the connection between the American public and
the American government... No matter how many war crimes Israel
commits. No matter how many women and children Israel murders.
No many how many Palestinians Israel drives from their homes,
villages, and lands. If truth could be told, the true axis-of-evil
is the United States and Israel."
Paul Craig Roberts, 2009
"Saudi Arabia and Israel
have a shared agenda to shape the Middle East to their liking
even if it means using violence and terrorism to bring the region
to the brink of war.
... The United States and Israel want the Middle East dominated
by Arab dictators, who can control the Sunni faithful through
petrol dollars and the Saudi royal's promotion and financing of
Wahabism, an extreme form of Islam."
Richard Walker, 2013
"France has joined with
Israel and with Saudi Arabia in quashing the true Arab spring,
deciding who does and does not stay in power in Syria or Libya
and finally in scuttling any chance for a nuclear power agreement
with Iran. The Saudis and the French are equal opportunity crooks.
The Saudis will give the French the right to build nuclear power
plants there, the French sell the Saudis armaments and voila,
a deal between two devils."
Margaret Kimberley, 2013
"The worst criminals of
our time are the US and UK governments. Both are devoid of all
integrity, all honor, all mercy, all humanity. Many members of
both governments would have made perfect functionaries in Stalinist
Russia or Nazi Germany."
Paul Craig Roberts
DRUG TRAFFICKING &
MONEY LAUNDERING
"From Colombia to Miami,
from the Golden Triangle to the Golden Gate, from Hong Kong to
New York, from Bogota to Frankfurt, the drug trade, and more especially
the heroin trade, is big business and it is run from the top down
by some of the most "untouchable" families in the world.
It is not a street corner business, and it takes a great deal
of money and expertise to keep it flowing smoothly.
... It is, in fact, the largest single enterprise in the world
today, transcending all others. That it is protected from the
top down is borne out by the fact that, like international terrorism,
it cannot be stamped out which should indicate to a reasonable
person that some of this biggest names in royal circles, the oligarchy,
the plutocracy are running it, even if it is done through intermediaries."
John Coleman in his book "Conspirators'
Hierarchy: The Story of the Committee of 300"
"Big Oil produces 90% of
the chemicals needed to process cocaine and heroin, which CIA
surrogates grow, process and distribute."
Dean Henderson in his book "Big
Oil & Their Bankers In The Persian Gulf"
"A competent war on drugs
must begin with a war against the banking institutions and bankers
who 'launder' Dope, Inc.'s ill-gotten gains...Shut down the drug
money-laundering by the major Anglo-American banks, and the dope
cartel would choke to death on its own profits... Dope, Inc.'s
vulnerable flank is the international network of banks and other
financial institutions that 'launder' the cartel's $558 billion
per year in gross revenue... Action by governments against the
drug bankers could rapidly shut down Dope, Inc.."
DOPE, INC., Executive Intelligence
Review, 1992
"Washington's "war
on drugs" is directed towards increasing U.S. power in Latin
America. The use of drug money laundered through U.S. banks finances
Washington's trade imbalances, while the drug war increases Washington's
general influence over economic policy."
James Petras and Henry Veltmeyer
in their book "Globalization Unmasked"
"The British Crown Colony
of Hong Kong, with the British Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation (HSBC) at the top, is considered the number-one money-laundering
center for the heroin trade. Illegal drugs are the biggest business
in the Far East, and close to being the biggest business in the
world, but in Hong Kong, drugs do not merely dominate the economy:
They are the economy."
DOPE, INC.: the international drug
cartel, money-laundering, and state power, 1992
"Drug money was the only
liquid investment capital available to banks on the brink of collapse
in 2007/2008, with roughly $325 billion in drug money absorbed
by the financial system. Inter-bank loans were funded by money
that originated from the drugs trade and other illegal activities.
There were signs that some banks were rescued that way."
Antonio Maria Costa, the head of
the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, 2009
"The Hong Kong and Shanghai
Bank [HSBC] and related companies finance the opium trade. In
this, they are acting as designated agents of the British monarchy,
through the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
The world illegal drug traffic is controlled by a single group
of men whose intimate ties of ownership, family, and political
collaboration go back 200 years."
www.bibliotecapleyades.net "How
the Drug Empire Works"
"The large international
banks that finance the drug trade, get it and launder it, using
it to prop up their bankrupt international financial system."
DOPE, INC.: the international drug
cartel, money-laundering, and state power, 1992
"The mafia and the CIA
are the same group at the upper levels. In Britain, the MI-6 drug
money is laundered through the Bank of England, Barclays Bank
and other household name companies. The drug money is passed from
account to account until its origins are lost in a huge web of
transactions.
The drug money comes out 'cleaner' but not totally clean. Diamonds
are then bought with this money from the corrupt diamond business
families like the Oppenheimers.
These diamonds are then sold and the drug money is clean."
James Casbolt
"Under U.S. law, banks
must report all cash deposits of $10,000 or more. Traffickers
have turned to high cash-turnover businesses - such as hotels,
casinos, restaurants, and sports events-to launder their money.
Since banks don't have to report deposits made by these businesses,
drug profits are simply mixed in with legal cash flows.
Cash is also frequently shipped out of the United States. Often
planes which fly cocaine into the U.S., fly back loaded with $20,
$50, and $100 bills. The bills can then either be deposited directly
in offshore banking centers - where no questions are asked -or
in remote bank branches in the drug-producing countries. These
funds are then wire-transferred out to the offshore banks, into
secret accounts where there is no government supervision."
DOPE, INC.: the international drug
cartel, money-laundering, and state power, 1992
"Cocaine is indeed clearly
the most profitable article of trade in the world."
Economist magazine, August 1989
"Some of the world's leading
private financial institutions are deeply implicated in the laundering
of hundreds of billions of dollars a year in illegal dope money.
Illegal drugs are the largest commodity in international trade,
with the exception of petroleum, and the annual revenues of the
narcotics traffic exceeds the national product of most of the
world's nations, and the revenues of the largest multinational
companies."
DOPE, INC.: the international drug
cartel, money-laundering, and state power, 1992
"In the half century since
the Korean War the United States has been involved in four major
wars in the Third World: in Vietnam (1961-1975), in the Persian
Gulf (1990-1991), in Colombia (1991-present), and in Afghanistan
(2001-2002). All four wars were fought in or near significant
oil-producing areas. All four involved reliance on proxies who
were also major international drug traffickers. The American habit
of training, arming, and financing its drug-trafficking allies
in order to help secure oil resources abroad has been a major
factor in the huge increase in global illicit drug trafficking
since World War II."
Peter Dale Scott, 2003
"The drug activities of
the US, and the US-led NATO, are tightly linked with the NATO
expansion and the creation of US military bases in the protectorates
established along the drug-trafficking and pipeline routes. The
best example is the supervised state of Kosovo used by drug lords
to relay narcotics from Afghanistan to Europe via the Balkan route.
The Albanian drug mafia's throughput is estimated at four to six
tons of heroin of the Afghan origin monthly, the annual revenues
being as high as $2 billion. According to the UN, Europe which
is the key market for Afghan opiates absorbs up to 150 tons of
heroin annually, with 35-50 tons going to Russia. The Albanian
mafia is responsible for 75% of heroin supplies to West Europe
and 50% to the US."
Elena Ponomareva
"The U.S. military intervention
in Afghanistan in 2001 was accompanied by restoration of opium
for the world market, a recreation of what happened with the earlier
U.S. intervention of 1979-1980, and before that with the U.S.
intervention in Indochina after 1959, and in Southeast Asia in
1950."
Peter Dale Scott, 2003
"The drug "industry"
is run as a single integrated world operation, from the opium
poppy to the nickel bag of heroin sold on an inner-city street
corner. Not only is illegal drug traffic under the control of
a single world network, but opiates traffic in particular is without
doubt the best-controlled production and distribution system of
any commodity in international trade, illegal or legal.
... The drug-related illegal economy is the biggest business in
the world.
... The British monarchy organized most of the Far East to conform
to the drug traffic.
... The Anglo-Dutch "offshore" banking system and related
precious metals and gems trade were designed around illegal money.
... The world drug traffic is a top-down operation under the immediate
control of the British and allied monarchies."
www.bibliotecapleyades.net "How
the Drug Empire Works"
"The heroin epidemic that
ravaged our cities during the fifties and sixties originated with
the CIA out of Southeast Asia. Almost from the moment of their
founding in 1947, the CIA was giving covert support to organized
drug traffickers in Europe and the Far East, and eventually the
Middle East and Latin America. During the Vietnam War, heroin
was being smuggled into this country in the bodies of soldiers
being flown home."
Jesse Ventura in the book "American
Conspiracies"
"In my 30-year history
in the Drug Enforcement Administration and related agencies, the
major targets of my investigations almost invariably turned out
to be working for the CIA."
Dennis Dayle, a forms DEA agent
in the Middle East
"A huge chunk of international
banking and related financial operations have been created solely
to manage dirty money.
... The Anglo-Dutch banking operations control illegal drug and
related trade.
... The Anglo-Dutch oligarchy's banking operations have the following
qualifications:
They have run the drug trade for a century and a half.
They dominate those banking centers closed off to law enforcement
agencies.
Almost all such "offshore," unregulated banking centers
are under the direct political control of the British and Dutch
monarchies and their allies.
They dominate all banking at the heart of the narcotics traffic;
the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, created in 1864 to finance the
drug trade, is exemplary.
They control world trade in gold and diamonds, a necessary aspect
of "hard commodity" exchange for drugs.
They subsume the full array of connections to organized crime,
the pro-drug legislative lobby in the USA, and all other elements
of distribution, protection, and legal support.
www.bibliotecapleyades.net "How
the Drug Empire Works"
"The global narcotics market
is estimated by the UN to be of the order of $400-500 billion
a year.
... Drug trafficking constitutes the third biggest global commodity
in cash terms after oil and the arms trade. Supported by powerful
interests, heroin is a multibillion-dollar business, which requires
a steady and secure commodity flow. One of the hidden objectives
of the war In Afghanistan was effectively to restore the CIA sponsored
drug trade to its historical levels and exert direct control over
the drug routes."
Michel Chossudovsky in his book
" America's War on Terrorism"
"The global narcotics market

a year."
Michel Chossudovsky in his book
" America's War on Terrorism"
"Intelligence agencies
and powerful business syndicates, which are allied with organized
crime, are competing for the strategic control over the heroin
routes. The multi-billion dollar revenues of narcotics are deposited
in the Western banking system. Most of the large international
banks, together with their affiliates in the offshore banking
havens, launder large amounts of narco-dollars.
This trade can only prosper if the main actors involved in narcotics
have political friends in high places. Legal and illegal undertakings
are increasingly intertwined; the dividing line between "business
people" and criminals is blurred."
Michel Chossudovsky in his book
" America's War on Terrorism"
PERPETUAL WAR
"How does continuous war
act to keep the Lows "stupefied by poverty" and thereby
assure the maintenance of the social structure? The goal of the
wars is to enable the economy to be kept going for the benefit
of the High, its military, and its bureaucracy and control personnel
(the Thought Police, etc.), but at the same time to assure that
any excess production capacity is prevented from producing consumer
goods for the lower classes. That excess capacity is instead directed
to producing excess military goods which will ' ultimately rust
away or be destroyed in warfare; that is, the excess capacity
is deliberately wasted in order to turn it away from the production
of goods which would result in added leisure or well-being for
the lower classes. Those classes are instead continually forced
into group activities expressing hatred toward the current enemy
(any enemy) and dependency upon and love toward their benevolent
rulers for protecting them from that enemy. They are thereby led
to accept the consumer shortages, the poverty, and the other privations
to which they are subjected. Their economic status is kept at
the subsistence level, forcing their priorities to be focused
on simply acquiring basic food, clothing, and shelter. They are
thus denied either the time or the inclination to question the
fairness or permanence of their societal condition, or to otherwise
evolve into a threat to the established hierarchy."

"The need for human drudgery,
and therefore to a great extent for human inequality, had disappeared...
But it was also clear that an all-round increase in wealth threatened
the destruction of a hierarchical society. In a world in which
everyone worked short hours, had enough to eat, the most obvious
and perhaps the most important form of inequality would already
have disappeared. If it once became general, wealth would confer
no distinction... But in practice such a society could not long
remain stable. For if leisure and security were enjoyed by all
alike, the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied
by poverty would become literate and would learn to think for
themselves; and when once they had done this, they would sooner
or later realize that the privileged minority had no function,
and they would sweep it away. In the long run, a hierarchical
society was only possible on a basis of poverty and ignorance.
... The problem was how to keep the wheels of industry turning
without increasing the real wealth of the world. Goods must be
produced, but they must not be distributed. And in practice the
only way of achieving this was by continuous warfare."

"Winning wars is not in
the interest of the Pentagon and those who feed on it. Wars generate
profitable contracts for all manner of supplies and equipment.
Either winning or losing ends the gravy train. For example, the
war on Afghanistan of almost two decades has become an entitlement
program for the arms industry, accomplishing nothing, killing
countless peasants, and lacking purpose other than maintaining
an unneeded empire and funneling money to the Military-Industrial-Complex."
Fred Reed, 2018
"The America of wealth
and privilege is hooked on war, without regular and ever-stronger
doses of war it can no longer function properly, that is, yield
the desired profits. Right now, this addiction, this craving is
being satisfied by means of a conflict against Iraq, which also
happens to be dear to the hearts of the oil barons. However, does
anybody believe that the warmongering will stop once Saddam' scalp
will join the Taliban turbans in the trophy display case of George
W. Bush? The President has already pointed his finger at those
whose turn will soon come, namely, the "axis of evil"
countries: Iran, Syria, Libya, Somalia, North Korea, and of course
that old thorn in the side of America, Cuba. Welcome to the 21st

unleashed upon the world. An unlimited war that our leaders counsel
could go on indefinitely. A war against enemies in the "shadowy
networks," which means we will never know when the shadowy
enemy is vanquished. This is quite possibly the policymakers'
shot at the final, and permanent, militarization of U.S. society."
Robert Jensen in his book "Citizens
of Empire"
"The primary aim of modem
warfare is to use up the products of the machine without raising
the general standard of living. [The "machine" is society's
technical and industrial capacity to produce goods.]
... An all-around increase in wealth threatened the destruction
of a hierarchical society. In a world in which everyone worked
short hours, had enough to eat, lived in a house with a bathroom
and a refrigerator, and possessed a motorcar or even an airplane,
the most obvious and perhaps the most important form of inequality
would already have disappeared. If it once became general, wealth
would confer no distinction. Such a society could not long remain
stable. For if leisure and security were enjoyed by all alike,
the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied by poverty
would become literate and would learn to think for themselves;
and when once they had done this, they would sooner or later realize
that the privileged minority had no function, and they would sweep
it away. In the long run, a hierarchical society was only possible
on a basis of poverty and ignorance.
... The essential act of war is destruction, not necessarily of
human lives, but of the products of human labor. War is a way
of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or
sinking into the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise
be used to make the masses too comfortable, and hence, in the
long run, too intelligent."
George Orwell in his book "1984"
"The American citizenry
has no say over the military-industrial complex, which is autonomous
and out of control. If the Military-Industrial-Complex wants war
with Russia or China, we will have war with Russia or China."
Fred Reed, 2018
"Four sorrows, it seems
to me, are certain to be visited on the United States. Their cumulative
effect guarantees that the U.S. will cease to resemble the country
outlined in the Constitution of 1787. First, there will be a state
of perpetual war, leading to more terrorism against Americans
wherever they may be and a spreading reliance on nuclear weapons
among smaller nations as they try to ward off the imperial juggernaut.
Second is a loss of democracy and Constitutional rights as the
presidency eclipses Congress and is itself transformed from a
co-equal 'executive branch' of government into a military junta.
Third is the replacement of truth by propaganda, disinformation,
and the glorification of war, power, and the military legions.
Lastly, there is bankruptcy, as the United States pours its economic
resources into ever more grandiose military projects and shortchanges
the education, health, and safety of its citizens."
Chalmers Johnson in his book "Sorrows
of Empire"
"There is a special breed
of international financiers whose success typically is built upon
certain character traits. Those include cold objectivity, immunity
to patriotism, and indifference to the human condition. That profile
is the basis for proposing a theoretical strategy, called the
Rothschild Formula, which motivates such men to propel governments
into war for the profits they yield. As long as the mechanism
of central banking exists, it will be to such men an irresistible
temptation to convert debt into perpetual war and war into perpetual
debt."
G. Edward Griffin in his book "The
Creature from Jekyll Island"
"In a closed society, one
party or despot has control over the instruments of mass communication
and the power to enforce its will. Something very similar, however,
can happen in a democratic society under specific conditions that
are recognizable only in hindsight, although Orwell recognized
one of the most important, namely, when a government wages a 'perpetual
war' that keeps people terrified, focused in their hatred against
external and internal enemies, and 'patriotic' in the Orwellian
sense."
Drew Westen in the book "What
Orwell Didn't Know"
"What better economic stimulus
than a foreign policy of perpetual war?"
Justin Raimondo, 2009
"The need for major states as enemies stems partly from
the fact that only the perceived presence of enemy states can
justify military spending at the level which the industries concerned
have come to demand."
David Edwards - Burning All Illusions
"There was no comer of
the known world where some interest was not alleged to be in danger
or under actual attack If the interests were not Roman, they were
those of Rome's allies; and if Rome had no allies, then allies
would be invented When it was utterly impossible to contrive such
an interest-why, then it was the national honor that had been
insulted. The fight was a/ways invested with an aura of legality.
Rome was always being attacked by evil-minded neighbors, always
fighting for a breathing space. The whole world was pervaded by
a host of enemies, and it was manifestly Rome's duty to guard
against their indubitably aggressive designs."
Joseph Schumpeter, Austrian economist,
1979 essay "The Sociology of Imperialisms"
"However unlikely some
of the possible alternate enemies may seem, we must emphasize
that one must be found, of credible quality and magnitude, if
a transition to peace is ever to come about without social disintegration....
It is more probable, in our judgment, that such a threat will
have to be invented, rather than developed from unknown conditions."
Report from Iron Mountain, 1967
"Enemies are necessary
for the wheels of the U.S. military machine to turn."
former CIA official John Stockwell
"Our government has kept
us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede
of patriotic fervor - with the cry of grave national emergency.
Always there has been some terrible evil to gobble us up if we
did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the exorbitant funds
demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have
happened, seem never to have been quite real."
General Douglas MacArthur, 1957,
as quoted in "American Caesar" by William Manchester,
1978
"Were the Soviet Union
to sink tomorrow under the waters of the ocean, the American military-industrial
establishment would have to go on, substantially unchanged, until
some other adversary could be invented. Anything else would be
an unacceptable shock to the American economy."
George Kennan, State Department
Cold War strategist
"Now that the cold war
is becoming a memory, America's foreign policy establishment has
begun searching for new enemies. Possible new villains include
"instability" in Europe, the "vanishing" ozone
layer, nuclear proliferation, and narco-terrorism. Topping the
list of potential new global bogeymen, however, are the Yellow
Peril, the alleged threat to American economic security emanating
from East Asia, and the so-called Green Peril (green is the color
of Islam)."
Leon T. Hadar, Cato Institute,
1990s
"The ruling elites know
who their enemies are, and their enemies are the people, the people
at home and the people abroad. Their enemies are anybody who wants
more social justice, anybody who wants to use the surplus value
of society for social needs rather than for individual class greed.
That's their enemy."
Michael Parenti
"America cherishes her
enemies. Without enemies, she is a nation without purpose and
direction. The various components of the National Security State
need enemies to justify their swollen budgets, to aggrandize their
work, to protect their jobs, to give themselves a mission in the
aftermath of the Soviet Union."
William Blum in his book "Rogue
State"
"It is now clear that we
are facing an implacable enemy (communism) whose avowed objective
is world domination by whatever means and at whatever cost. There
are no rules in such a game. Hitherto acceptable norms of human
conduct do not apply. If the United States is to survive, long-standing
American concepts of "fair play" must be reconsidered.
We must develop effective espionage and counterespionage services
and must learn to subvert, sabotage and destroy our enemies by
more clever, more sophisticated, and more effective methods than
those used against us. It may become necessary that the American
people be made acquainted with, understand and support this fundamentally
repugnant philosophy."
Doolittle Report - White House
commission to study the ClA's covert activities , 1954
"The collapse of the Soviet
Union ended China's main usefulness to the United States as an
ally, while enhancing its new status as a possible long-term rival
to American hegemony. In the wake of the Cold War, with the Pentagon
intent on maintaining near Cold War levels of military spending,
enemies on the global horizon were much needed.
With the Soviet army increasingly seen as a disintegrating "paper
tiger," China's economic emergence as a major power in the
Pacific offered one possible fit with the Pentagon's need for
a major enemy."
Chalmers Johnson in his book "Blowback"
"There's really no serious
proposal about what to do about the severe problems of health,
education, homelessness, joblessness, crime, soaring criminal
populations, jails, deterioration in the inner cities - the whole
raft of problems. In such circumstances you've got to divert the
bewildered herd, because if they start noticing this they may
not like it, since they're the ones suffering from it. You have
to whip them up into fear of enemies."
Noam Chomsky in his book 'Media
Control'
"This is total war. We
are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out
there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan,
then we will do Iraq, then we take a look around and see how things
stand. This is entirely the wrong way to go about it... If we
just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely,
and we don't try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just
wage a total war, our children will sing great songs about us
years from now."
neoconservative Richard Perle
"The need for major states
as enemies stems partly from the fact that only the perceived
presence of enemy states can justify military spending at the
level which the industries concerned have come to demand."
Anatol Lieven in his book "America
Right or Wrong"
"From the era of US wars
to disarm and eliminate "merciless Indian savages" to
the era of capitalist wars to contain and then vanquish red communism,
to the current era of global police and military operations mounted
in the name of opposing the largely manufactured demon of al-Qaeda,
the American empire of material aggrandizement has always required
an external enemy to give military support to the expansionary
enterprises of its biggest engines of corporate profit. It has
required pretexts to present wars of aggression as self-defence."
Anthony J. Hall in his book "Earth
into Property: Colonization, Decolonization, and Capitalism"
STATE TERROR &
FALSE FLAGS
"In the United States, every single terrorist incident we
have had has been a false flag or has been an informant pushed
on by the FBI."
Robert David Steele, former CIA
agent
"The easiest way to carry
out a false flag attack is by setting up a military exercise that
simulates the very attack you want to carry out . This is exactly
how government perpetrators in the US and UK handled the 9/11
and 7/7 'terror' attacks, which were in reality government attacks
blamed on 'terrorists'."
Captain Eric H. May, former Army
military intelligence and public affairs officer, 2008
"9/11 was an example of
state-sponsored, false-flag, synthetic terrorism. The 9/11 events
were organized and directed by a rogue network of high government
and military officials of the United States, with a certain participation
by the intelligence agencies of Britain and Israel, and with a
more general backup from the intelligence agencies of the other
Echelon states Australia, New Zealand, Canada."
Webster Griffin Tarpley in his
book "9/11 Synthetic Terror - made in the USA"
"The former Italian Prime
Minister, an Italian judge, and the former head of Italian counterintelligence
admit that NATO, with the help of the Pentagon and CIA, carried
out terror bombings in Italy and other European countries in the
1950s and blamed the communists, in order to rally people's support
for their governments in Europe in their fight against communism."
Washington's Blog, 2010
"For many Americans, the
idea that we are living in a country whose own leaders planned
and carried out the attacks of 9/11 is simply too horrible to
entertain. Unfortunately, however, there is strong evidence in
support of this view."
David Ray Griffin and Peter Dale
Scott
"Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz,
Stephen Hadley, Elliott Abrams, and Condoleezza Rice ran the attacks
[9/11].
It was called a stand down, a false flag operation in order to
mobilize the American public under false pretenses... it was told
to me by the general on the staff of Wolfowitz.
I taught stand down and false flag operations at the national
war college. I've taught it with all my operatives, so I knew
exactly what was done to the American public."
Dr. Steve R. Pieczenik, Deputy
Assistant Secretary of State under Nixon, Ford and Carter
PETER POWER: "At half past
nine this morning we were actually running an exercise for a company
of over a thousand people in London based on simultaneous bombs
going off precisely at the railway stations where it happened
this morning, so I still have the hairs on the back of my neck
standing up right now."
BBC HOST: "To get this quite straight, you were running an
exercise to see how you would cope with this and it happened while
you were running the exercise?"
PETER POWER: "Precisely."
Peter Power, former Scotland
Yard anti-terrorism agent, who was a contract employee working
in government exercises on the day of the July 2007 London railway
bombings - interviewed by BBC
"The U.S. government declassified
documents showing that in the 1960's, the American Joint Chiefs
of Staff signed off on a plan [Operation Northwoods] to blow up
American airplanes, and also to commit terrorist acts on American
soil, and then to blame it on the Cubans in order to justify an
invasion of Cuba."
Washington's Blog, Global Research,
2010
"The Israeli embassy had
been advised in advance by Scotland Yard of an impending bomb
attack [London, July 7, 2005]:
Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer
at the Israeli Embassy to say they had received warnings of possible
attacks.
... Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned by
his embassy not to attend an economic conference. Netanyahu was
staying at the Aidridge Hotel in Mayfair. The conference venue
was a few miles away at the Great Eastern Hotel close to the Liverpool
subway station; where one of the bomb blasts occurred."
Michel Chossudovsky in his book
" America's War on Terrorism"
"The owner of all three
World Trade Center buildings was Larry Silverstein, who had recently
doubled the insurance value of the Twin Towers. He stated in a
PBS interview that he and the New York Fire Department agreed
to a controlled demolition of WTC 7. Since skyscrapers are not
normally wired for demolition -- unless someone intends to demolish
them -- Silverstein's statement is an admission that 9/11 was
an inside job."
Captain Eric H. May, former Army
military intelligence and public affairs officer, 2008
"At least until 1978, the
Israeli secret service infiltrated Italian subversive organizations
and on more than one occasion gave arms, money and information
to the terrorist Red Brigades. The Israeli plan was to reduce
Italy to a country torn by civil war so that the United States
would have to depend more on Israel for security in the Mediterranean."
Italian senior magistrate Ferdinando
Imposimato
"The reason why there are
only a few nations that do false flags is that you need really
top-of-the-line covert operations teams. The U.S. has certainly
got them, and a few NATO nations have them... The other problem
that you have is that you need total control over mainstream media...
The United States does. Brittan does. Israel does. They can be
assured when something goes down they are going to have a totally
sympathetic global media that will work hand in glove with them,
and that will block out uncomfortable questions and the like."
Richard Dolan
"The United States has
the remarkable ability to stage exercises simulating the exact
events that are actually taking place, such as the bombing exercise
in Boston, and the hijacking exercise on September 11, 2001. The
United Kingdom must have this ability as well because they were
running a drill simulating a bombing of London's subway stations
at the exact same time that there was an actual bombing of London's
subway system. What a coincidence."
Charlie Robinson, in his book "The
Octopus of Global Control", 2017
"The truth about 9/11 is
so horrific that if the American people actually were to learn
that truth they would completely lose confidence in their system,
because the truth of matter is that a faction of power in the
United States - the neoconservative faction - orchestrated the
events of September 11, 2001, as a New Pearl Harbor designed to
launch their agenda of world domination and a rollback of freedom
in the United States."
Dr. Kevin Barrett
"If you tell a lie big
enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe
it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State
can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military
consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for
the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the
truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the
truth is the greatest enemy of the State."
Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister
of Propaganda
"The high officials, media
executives and military officers who are bound by law and ethics
to serve the American people have become a textbook example of
a grand conspiracy. To look at it from their point of view, they
are historic actors who are beyond good and evil, who must stimulate
the American people to a necessary geostrategic adventure by any
means necessary. To them, the official account of the 9/11 'terror'
attacks is what Plato once described as the 'noble lie,' a necessary
falsehood told to a childlike public in order to direct it maturely."
Captain Eric H. May, former Army
military intelligence officer
NEO-COLONIALISM &
ECONOMIC WARFARE
"The World Bank and the
International Monetary Fund began to tie loans to "structural
adjustment" programs, which channeled more of the debtor
country's financial and productive resources toward debt repayment.
... Structural adjustments were originally imposed on an ad hoc
basis upon individual nations when it appeared that they could
not keep up with existing debt payments. By 1985, fifteen debtor
nations had been subjected to SAPs, and by 1991, a quarter of
the World Bank's total lending was tied to structural adjustment
in 54 nations. As more of the "debtor" nations' dwindling
resources went to debt service, new loans were simply used to
repay previous loans, and the total debt of the low income nations
more than quadrupled from $100 to $473 billion between 1980 and
1992. World Bank and IMF "reforms" continued, and by
the mid-1990s, more than a hundred countries and 80 percent of
the world's population had been "structurally adjusted."
The average developing nation's debt payments were a third of
its gross national product.
... When no more money or exports can be squeezed from the poor,
selling state-owned companies to Northern corporations becomes
an option... Once again, a handful of multinational corporations
are the beneficiaries.
Structural adjustment proved to be such a useful tool for leveraging
corporate power that it was time to make it a permanent part of
the global economy, and that is just what the international trade
treaties of the 1990s have done - codified the elements of structural
adjustment into international law."
George Draffan
"The IMF and World Bank
are the chief pushers of the whole scheme of structural adjustments
that are designed to further open up the Third World economies
for penetration and plunder by private monopoly corporations.
We call for the abrogation of all loan agreements that provide
for structural adjustment, public assumption of private debts
and the further exposure of the Third World economies to plunder
by private multinational giants."
Cebu Declaration, Philippine-Asia
Jubilee Campaign Against the Debt, May 18, 1999, Cebu City, Philippines
"The World Trade Organization,
The World Bank, The International Monetary Fund and other financial
institutions virtually write economic policy and parliamentary
legislation. With a deadly combination of arrogance and ruthlessness,
they take their sledgehammers to fragile, interdependent, historically
complex societies and devastate them, all under the fluttering
banner of 'reform'."
Arundhati Roy
"The debt is used as a
justification to maintain neoliberal policies, including what
are known as structural adjustment programs, as institutional
mechanisms to perpetuate a state of dependence. Bail-out programs
by creditors, with the support of the International Monetary Fund
and the World Bank have only served to ensure the continuity for
mechanisms to keep countries deep in debt."
Tegucigalpa Declaration, Latin
American and Caribbean Jubilee 2000 Platform, Tegucigalpa, Honduras,
January 27, 1999
"By the 1980s, U.S. policymakers
were rejecting the view that a more prosperous, economically independent
Third World would serve the interests of U.S. capitalism. And
once there no longer was a competing socialist world to which
Third World leaders might threaten to turn, the United States
felt freer than ever to undo any kind of autonomous development
in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. One rollback weapon is the
debt. In order to meet payments and receive new credits from the
US-dominated World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF),
Third World governments have had to agree to merciless "structural
adjustment programs," including reductions in social programs,
cuts in wages, the elimination of import controls, the removal
of restrictions on foreign investments, the privatization of state
enterprises, and the elimination of domestic food production in
favor of high profit export crops."
Michael Parenti
"Structural adjustment
imposed by the World Bank and IMF have brought disaster to the
working poor of as many as 100 countries, forced to open their
markets to a flood of cheap imports while the rich refuse to abandon
their subsidies, quotas and high tariffs. The result is brutal
suppression of wages and living standards and elimination of social
programs."
Noam Chomsky
"The IMF imposes strict
conditions on debtor nations that force them to concentrate on
producing cheap exports in order to increase foreign reserves
needed to pay interest on their debt. These structural adjustment
programs include currency devaluation, reduced wages, cutbacks
to social programs, and reliance on the market system. All of
these programs benefit creditor nations such as the United States
at the expense of the debtor nations."
David Model
"Beginning in the late
1970s, the World Bank and IMF mandated a shift away from industrialization
toward economies based solely on the export of raw materials and
agricultural products. Loans were now to be used as leverage to
impose what were called Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs)-programs
that mandated slashing social spending, eliminating price subsidies
and trade tariffs, and privatizing government-owned industries
and services-all in order to pay down foreign debt."
Lena Weinstein
"The United States is now
the world's largest debtor nation, yet has avoided the pain of
"structural adjustments" imposed on other debtor economies.
US interest-rate and tax reductions in the face of exploding trade
and budget deficits are seen as the height of hypocrisy in view
of the austerity programs that Washington forces on other countries
via the IMF and other Washington vehicles.
The United States tells debtor economies to sell off their public
utilities and natural resources, raise their interest rates and
increase taxes while gutting their social safety nets to squeeze
out money to pay creditors."
Michael Hudson
"The infamous `conditionalities'
policy for procuring emergency IMF loans remains in force to this
day... The prospective recipient of money must convince inspectors
it is implementing a "realistic rate of exchange... as defined
by the IMF. The focus on the exchange rate allows the IMF to control
a country's fiscal policy, government expenditure, tax policy,
and public enterprise policy - in short, every aspect of national
economic life... The formula is invariably the same. The debtor
country is forced to slash imports, severely devalue its domestic
currency (ensuring that relative dollar-denominated debt increases
by multiples), and impose draconian cuts in government subsidies
for food and other necessaries, while opening vital areas of the
national economy to foreign takeovers on the cheap, justified
as `free market reforms' by the IMF."
Executive Intelligence Review
"During the 1970s and 1980s,
the U.S. used the dictatorship of Baby Doc Duvalier to impose
what the International Monetary Fund calls a "structural
adjustment program." Haitians called it "the plan of
death." Duvalier opened up the Haitian economy to heavily
subsidized U.S. agricultural exports, especially rice, which undermined
the ability of Haitian peasants to compete on the market."
Ashley Smith
"When the World Bank and
the International Monetary Fund lend money to debtor countries,
the money comes with strings attached. These strings come in the
form of policy prescriptions called 'structural adjustment policies.'
These policies require debtor governments to open their economies
to penetration by foreign corporations, allowing access to the
country's workers and environment at bargain basement prices.
Structural adjustment policies mean across-the-board privatization
of public utilities and publicly owned industries. They mean the
slashing of government budgets, leading to cutbacks in spending
on health care and education. And, as their imposition in country
after country in Latin America, Africa, and Asia has shown, they
lead to deeper inequality and environmental destruction."
Global Exchange
"Fiscal austerity [structural
adjustment] will imply massive cuts in social spending, which
will do to the developed world what they did to the 'developing'
world: health, education and social services will be cut, with
public employees in those and other sectors fired, creating a
massive new wave of unemployed people. Simultaneously, taxes will
be dramatically increased, particularly on the middle and lower
classes, which would then be more impoverished than ever before."
Andrew Gavin Marshall
"Since the 1980s, it is
mainly the Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs) of the World
Bank and the IMF that act as the enforcers of neoliberalism. These
programs are levied against the countries of the South which can
be extorted due to their debts. Meanwhile, numerous military interventions
and wars help to take possession of the assets that still remain,
secure resources, install neoliberalism as the global economic
politics, crush resistance movements, and facilitate the lucrative
business of reconstruction."
Claudia von Werlhof
OIL & RESOURCE
EXTRACTION
"After 1971, a White House
policy was initiated, under the effective control of Henry Kissinger,
to control the economies of the nations and to reduce their populations,
rather than to facilitate technology transfer and industrial growth.
The strategy was to force the price of the cartelized world oil
up by about a factor of four, recover the Arab oil receipts back
into the British and American central banks, and lend them to
the Third World to acquire control over those countries. To this
end, the Bilderberg group, containing the world's top financial
and political insiders, met privately in Saltsjoebaden, Sweden
in May 1973 to discuss how the coming flood of oil dollars was
to be handled.
... The great bulk of the petro-dollars were repatriated in purchasing
U.S. government debt and in deposit accounts in Chase Manhattan,
Citibank, et al. From there they were loaned to the Third World,
which could not otherwise buy the fuel they needed to survive,
whence many of those countries became enslaved to the bankers,
and forced to follow their edicts on how to run their countries.
F William Engdahl in his book "A
Century of War"
reviewed in the book "How The World Really Works" by
Alan Jones
"The dollar's current strength
is supported by the requirement of the Organization of the Petroleum
Exporting Countries (OPEC), secured originally by a secret agreement
between the United States and Saudi Arabia, that all OPEC oil
sales be denominated in dollars."

"Everyone knows: the Iraq
war is largely about oil."
Alan Greenspan, former chairman
of the Federal Reserve, 2008
"If you want to know who
rules the world, just think of two words: "Oil Bankers."
The western financial institutions that dominate the world economy
can all be traced back to fossil fuels. The House of Rockefeller,
tied in with Exxon-Mobil, sucessor of Standard Oil, along with
the House of Morgan now exercise their titanic power via an entity
called Chase Bank. HSBC Bank is closely tied to British Petroleum.
The British banking dynasty known as the Rothschilds is closely
tied in with Royal Dutch Shell."
Caleb Maupin, 2018
"We must never make it
appear as if we went into Iraq for its oil."
Republican Arizona Senator Jon
Kyl
"The United States is not
interested in the oil in that region from Iraq. That's just utter
nonsense."
Donald Rumsfeld, US. Secretary
of Defense, interview with Al Jazeera TV, February 25, 2003
"We're there in Iraq because
that part of the world controls the world supply of oil, and whoever
controls the supply of oil would have a stranglehold on the American
economy and indeed on the world economy."
Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney,
1990
"Since the Bush-Cheney
Administration took office in January 2001, controlling the major
oil and natural gas fields of the world had been the primary,
though undeclared, priority of US foreign policy... Not only the
invasion of Iraq, but also the toppling of the Taliban in Afghanistan,
had nothing to do with 'democracy,' and everything to do with
pipeline control across Central Asia and the militarization of
the Middle East."
F. William Engdahl
"The United States handled
the quadrupling of oil prices in the 1970s by arranging, by means
of secret agreements with the Saudis, to recycle petrodollars
back into the U.S. economy. The first of these deals assured a
special and ongoing Saudi stake in the health of the U.S. dollar;
the second secured continuing Saudi support for the pricing of
all OPEC oil in dollars. These two deals assured that the U.S.
economy would not be impoverished by OPEC oil price hikes. The
heaviest burdens would be borne instead by the economies of less
developed countries."
Peter Dale Scott, 2003
"One of the verboten topics
is oil. Do you notice how it is almost never mentioned in the
press as a real reason we went into Iraq. When is the last time
you heard any major media outlet talking about it? Was there ever
a magazine cover that asked -- Was it About the Oil? Can you imagine
Wolf Blitzer asking this question of a government official?
... Do Americans realize that the rest of the world, is absolutely
convinced we went in for the oil?
Cenk Uygur, 2008
"We had virtually no economic
options with Iraq, because the country floats on a sea of oil."
Paul Wolfowitz, 2008
"In April 2005 Sudan's
government announced it had found oil in South Darfur, a major
geopolitical event which major US and European media "forgot"
to mention when discussing the sudden new "Darfur conflict."
Washington, using US Secretary of State Colin Powell, an African-American,
to deliver the message, began accusing the Khartoum regime of
"genocide" in Darfur, though no independent proof was
given. Only Washington and the NGO's close to it used the term
"genocide" to describe Darfur. If they could get a popular
acceptance of the charge of genocide, it opened the possibility
for drastic "regime change" interventions by NATO and
by Washington in Sudan's sovereign affairs. The Washington Darfur
smear campaign soon enlisted Hollywood stars like George Clooney
in this effort. Washington and NATO launched a campaign to argue
for a de facto NATO occupation of the region.
In 2004, Chad's dictator Idriss Deby launched the initial strike
that set off the conflict in Darfur, using members of his elite
Presidential Guard who originate from the province. He provided
all-terrain vehicles, arms and anti-aircraft guns to Darfur rebels
fighting the Khartoum government in southwest Sudan. The US military
support to Deby was the trigger for the Darfur bloodbath. Khartoum
reacted and the ensuing tragic debacle was unleashed in full force.
... In 2011 a new "republic" was declared in southern
Sudan titled The Republic of South Sudan. It (conveniently for
the Pentagon) controlled a major part of Sudan's oil flows to
China."
F. William Engdahl, 2014
"Only in an America dumbed
down by constant propaganda about our innate moral superiority

over oil and gas pipeline routes out of the region. Muslim countries
including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates,

"Right after World War
II ... the United States moved to dominate a global system for
the production and distribution of oil. Starting with the Truman
Doctrine in 1946, U.S. geostrategic thinking was oil based. What
began as a strategy for containment of the Soviet Union has become
more and more nakedly a determination to control the oil resources
of the world. This pursuit has progressively deformed the domestic
U.S. economy, rendering it more and more unbalanced and dependent
on heavy military expenditures in remote and ungovernable areas-most
recently Afghanistan."

Henry Kissinger
"In 1969 the Senate Church
Committee discovered that the US Department Of Defense (DOD) had
requested a budget of tens of millions of taxpayer dollars for
a program to speed development of new viruses which target and
destroy the human immune system. Out of this research came the
AIDS virus which was targeted at "undesirable elements"
of the population.
The first AIDS viruses were administered through a massive smallpox
vaccine campaign in central and southern Africa by the World Health
Organization in 1977. A year later ads appeared in major US newspapers
soliciting "promiscuous gay male volunteers" to take
part in a Hepatitis B vaccine study. The program targeted male
homosexuals age 20-40 in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago,
St. Louis and San Francisco. It was administered by the US Centers
for Disease Control which, under its earlier incarnation as the
US Public Health Department in Atlanta, oversaw the Tuskegee syphilis
experiments on African American males."

"The US and UK governments'
relentless backing for the global spread of genetically modified
seeds was in fact the implementation of a decades long policy
of the Rockefeller Foundation since the 1930's, when it funded
Nazi eugenics research. As some of these circles saw it, war as
a means of population reduction was costly and not that efficient.
... The Rockefeller Foundation, working with John D. Rockefeller
Ill's Population Council, the World Bank, the UN Development Program
and the Ford Foundation, and others, had been working with the
WHO (World Health Organization) for 20 years to develop an anti-fertility
vaccine using tetanus, as well as with other vaccines."

"There is a single theme
behind all our work; we must reduce population levels. Either
they do it our way, through nice clean methods or they will get
the kind of mess that we have in El Salvador, or in Iran, or in
Beirut... Once population is out of control it requires authoritarian
government, even fascism, to reduce it... The professionals aren't
interested in reducing population for humanitarian reasons...
Civil wars are somewhat drawn-out ways to reduce population. The
quickest way to reduce population is through famine like in Africa.
We go into a country and say, here is your goddamn development
plan. Throw it out the window. Start looking at your population
...if you don't ...then you'll have an El Salvador or an Iran,
or worse, a Cambodia.
... To accomplish what the State Department deems adequate population
control, the civil war (in El Salvador run by CIA) would have
to be greatly expanded. You have to pull all the males into fighting
and kill significant numbers of fertile, child-bearing age females.
You are killing a small number of males and not enough fertile
females to do the job ...If the war went on 30-40 years, you might
accomplish something."

"When challenged in South America in the early 1990's about
the tetanus vaccine being laced with HCG, the World Health Organization
[WH]O brushed off the claims as unfounded and asked for proof.
When proof was provided by the Catholic based bodies in those
countries, WHO claimed that the other components of the vaccine
production process may have caused false positive results. When
pushed further, they accepted that a few vaccines may have been
contaminated with HCG during the production process. However,
HCG is not a component nor is it used in the production of any
vaccine let alone tetanus. It was only after antibodies against
HCG were demonstrated in the women who were immunized with the
laced tetanus vaccine that the matter was sealed. The immunized
women have suffered multiple abortions and some have remained
sterile."

"In the mid 1990s, the
World Health Organization, in partnership with other international
groups, including UNICEF, rolled out anti-tetanus vaccine campaigns
in developing countries including the Philippines. Women and girls
of child-bearing age only were recruited for multiple tetanus
vaccine injections just months apart - not the usual tetanus vaccine
schedules several years apart - in order to prevent neonatal tetanus.
... Some health workers in the Philippines began to notice that
women were miscarrying after the vaccine and they grew suspicious.
Eventually, the Philippine Medical Association retrieved 47 vials
of the vaccine and had them tested in an FDA-approved laboratory.
Nine of the vials were found to contain the hCG subunit. The WHO
and other global health organizations involved vehemently denied
the claim, but when the PMA sent their lab results in September
1996 they admitted that the hCG anti-fertility drug was there."

one has disappeared from the scene."

"In nature the hCG hormone
alerts the woman's body that she is pregnant and causes the release
of other hormones to prepare the uterine lining for the implantation
of the fertilized egg. The rapid rise in hCG levels after conception
makes it an excellent marker for confirmation of pregnancy: when
a woman takes a pregnancy test she is not tested for the pregnancy
itself, but for the elevated presence of hCG.
However, when introduced into the body coupled with a tetanus
toxoid carrier, antibodies will be formed not only against tetanus
but also against hCG. In this case the body fails to recognize
hCG as a friend and will produce anti-hCG antibodies. The antibodies
will attack subsequent pregnancies by killing the hCG which naturally
sustains a pregnancy; when a woman has sufficient anti-hCG antibodies
in her system, she is rendered incapable of maintaining a pregnancy."

"In the early 1990's, according
to a report from the Global Vaccine Institute, the WHO oversaw
massive vaccination campaigns against tetanus in Nicaragua, Mexico
and the Philippines. Comite Pro Vida de Mexico, a Roman Catholic
lay organization, became suspicious of the motives behind the
WHO program. When they tested numerous vials of the vaccine they,
like in Kenya today, found they contained the same Human Chorionic
Gonadotrophin, or HCG. They found that to be very curious in a
vaccine designed to protect people against lock-jaw arising from
infection with rusty nail wounds. Tetanus is also rather rare,
so why a mass vaccination campaign and that for only women of
child-bearing age?
HCG is a natural hormone needed to maintain a pregnancy. However,
when combined with a tetanus toxoid carrier, it stimulated the
formation of antibodies against HCG, rendering a woman incapable
of maintaining a pregnancy, a form of concealed abortion."

and extravagant sentimentalism. Philanthropists encourage the
healthier and more normal sections of the world to shoulder the
burden of unthinking and indiscriminate fecundity of others; which
brings with it, as I think the reader must agree, a dead weight
of human waste. Instead of decreasing and aiming to eliminate
the stocks that are most detrimental to the future of the race
and the world, it tends to render them to a menacing degree dominant.
We are paying for, and even submitting to, the dictates of an
ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who
never should have been born at all."

"In 1994, the World Health
Organization was discovered to be vaccinating females aged between
15 and 45 in developing countries with a tetanus vaccine containing
the hCG hormone.
The vaccines were given to thousands of women in Mexico, Nicaragua

called Comité Pro Vida de Mexico became suspicious of the
protocols surrounding the vaccines and obtained several vials
for testing.
It was discovered that some of the vials contained human chorionic

her body to abort the fetus spontaneously."

COUPS & REGIME
CHANGE
"The use of social media
to control a targeted nation's information space, and use it as
a means of carrying out sociopolitical subversion and even regime
change reached its pinnacle in 2011 during the US-engineered "Arab
Spring."
Portrayed at first as spontaneous demonstrations organized organically
over Facebook and other social media platforms, it is now revealed
in articles like the New York Times', "U.S. Groups Helped
Nurture Arab Uprisings," that the US government had trained
activists years ahead of the protests, with Google and Facebook
participating directly in making preparations.
Opposition fronts funded and supported by the US State Department's
National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its subsidiaries Freedom
House, International Republican Institute (IRI), and National
Democratic Institute (NDI) were invited to several summits where
executives and technical support teams from Google and Facebook
provided them with the game plans they would execute in 2011 in
coordination with US and European media who also attended the
summits.
The end result was the virtual weaponization of social media,
serving as cover for what was a long-planned, regional series
of coups including heavily armed militants who eventually overthrew
the governments of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen, with Syria
now locked in 6 years of war as a result."

"In the year 2000, a
strange new political phenomenon emerged' Belgrade, the capital
of Serbia in the former Yugoslavia. On the surface, it seemed
to be a spontaneous and genuine political 'movement.' In reality,
it was the product of techniques that had been under study and
development in the US for decades.
... In Belgrade several specific organizations were key players:
the National Endowment for Democracy and two of its offshoots,
the International Republican Institute, tied to the Republican
party, and the National Democratic Institute, tied to the Democrats.
While claiming to be private Non-Government Organizations (NGOs),
they were, in fact, financed by the US Congress and State Department.
Armed with millions in US taxpayer dollars, they were moved into
place to create a synthetic movement for 'non-violent change."

Amnesty International, the International Crisis Group, etc., as
well as more obscure entities.
With the help of these various groups it is possible not only
to shape but to create the news, the agenda and public opinion

its natural resources and the furtherance of the uniform ideal

in favor of the very wealthy and the international companies.
He also called for a 60 percent increase in the bottom wage rate,
which had a huge impact on Dole and Chiquita, two of the biggest
employers in that company. They, along with a number of companies
that have sweatshops in Honduras, strongly objected, very much
the same way that they had objected to Aristide in Haiti, when
he did something similar, and called in the military. The general
in charge of the military was a graduate of our School of the
Americas, this, you know, school that's famous for creating dictators,

In tiny Guatemala, the Central Intelligence Agency mounted a coup
overthrowing the democratically elected government in 1954, and
it backed subsequent rightwing governments against small leftist
rebel groups for four decades. Roughly 200,000 civilians died.
In Chile, a CIA-supported coup helped put General Augusto Pinochet

from the summer of 2000 until the 2004 coup."

"In March 1982, General
Efrain Rios Montt seized power in Guatemala in a military coup.
An avowed fundamentalist Christian, he immediately impressed Washington
where President Reagan hailed Rios Montt as "a man of great
personal integrity." But under Rios Montt, the slaughter
in the countryside and selective assassinations in the cities
only grew worse.
By July 1982, Rios Montt had begun a new scorched-earth campaign
called his "rifles and beans" policy. The slogan meant
that pacified Indians would get "beans," while all others
could expect to be the target of army "rifles." In October,
he secretly gave carte blanche to the feared "Archivos"
intelligence unit to expand "death squad" operations.
Based at the Presidential Palace, the "Archivos" masterminded
many of Guatemala's most notorious assassinations.
The U.S. embassy was soon hearing more accounts of the army conducting
Indian massacres. However, during a swing through Latin America,
Reagan discounted the mounting reports of hundreds of Mayan villages
being eradicated. On December 4, 1982, after meeting with dictator
Rios Montt, Reagan hailed the general as "totally dedicated
to democracy" and asserted that Rios Montt's government was
"getting a bum rap."
On January 7, 1983, Reagan lifted the ban on military aid to Guatemala
and authorized the sale of $6 million in military hardware. Approval
covered spare parts for UH-1H helicopters and A-37 aircraft used
in counterinsurgency operations. Radios, batteries and battery
chargers were also in the package. State Department spokesman
John Hughes said political violence in the cities had "declined
dramatically" and that rural conditions had improved, too.
In February 1983, however, a secret CIA cable noted a rise in
"suspect right-wing violence" with kidnappings of students
and teachers. Bodies of victims were appearing in ditches and
gullies. CIA sources traced these political murders to Rios Montt's
order to the "Archivos" in October to "apprehend,
hold, interrogate and dispose of suspected guerrillas as they
saw fit."
Despite these grisly facts on the ground, the annual State Department
human rights survey praised the supposedly improved human rights
situation in Guatemala. "The overall conduct of the armed
forces had improved by late in the year" 1982, the report
stated."

"In Indonesia in 1965 a
group of young military officers attempted a coup against the
U.S.-backed military establishment and murdered six of seven top
military officers. The Agency seized this opportunity to overthrow
Sukarno and to destroy the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI),
which had three million members... Estimates of the number of
deaths that occurred as a result of this CIA ... operation run
from one-half million to more than one million people."

... Rios Montt himself told ABC News reporters that his coup had
been successful because "many of our soldiers were trained
by the Israelis."

"The U.S. wants to overthrow
President Hugo Chavez to put Venezuela in line with their other
clients in Latin America and knock down the only government that
offers an alternative foreign policy for the whole region. They
don't want that alternative present.
That's why this coup was planned, directed, and financed by the
Bush administration. It wasn't just the CIA. The assistant secretary
of state for Western hemisphere affairs was involved - I'm talking
about the Cuban terrorist exile Otto Reich. I'm talking about
people like Elliot Abrams, who was in the Reagan administration
and involved in justifying the killings in Central America, which
amounted to 300,000 deaths. I'm talking about John Negroponte,
the U.S. ambassador to the UN, who was involved with the death
squads in Honduras.
You have thugs running U.S. policy in Latin America, who are capable
not only of overthrowing a government but engaging in the kind
of violent repression that was launched in those 24 hours of the
coup against Hugo Chavez."

knowledge of the detailed plans for the coup against Chávez,

the groups, NGOs, trade unions, businesspeople, political parties

"On September 11, 1973,
General Augusto Pinochet orchestrated a coup d'état, with
the aid and participation of the CIA, against the Allende government
of Chile, overthrowing it and installing Pinochet as dictator.
The next day, an economic plan for the country was on the desks
of the General Officers of the Armed Forces who performed government
duties. The plan entailed "privatization, deregulation and
cuts to social spending," written up by "U.S.-trained
economists." These were the essential concepts in neoliberal
thought, which, through the oil crises of the 1970s, would be
forced upon the developing world through the World Bank and IMF."

"Ukraine in historical
context is at least the 80th time the United States has organized
a coup or a failed coup in a foreign country since 1953. That
was when President Eisenhower discovered in Iran that the CIA
could overthrow elected governments who refused to sacrifice the
future of their people to Western commercial and geopolitical
interests. Most U.S. coups have led to severe repression, disappearances,
extrajudicial executions, torture, corruption, extreme poverty
and inequality, and prolonged setbacks for the democratic aspirations
of people in the countries affected."

"The United States has

""The coups in Iran,
Guatemala, South Vietnam, and Chile were all "what the President
ordered." They were not rogue operations. Presidents, cabinet
secretaries, national security advisers, and CIA directors approved
them, authorized by the 1947 law that created the CIA and assigned
it "duties related to intelligence affecting the national
security." The first thing all four of these coups have in
common is that American leaders promoted them consciously, willfully,
deliberately, and in strict accordance with the laws of the United
States."

WAR CRIMES & CRIMES
AGAINST HUMANITY
(DEPLETED URANIUM, CLUSTER

"The United States bombing
and ground offensive killed up to 125,000 Iraqis. The approximately
one million people who died between the two wars on Iraq due to
depleted uranium, unsafe water, and lack of medical equipment
and medication are also victims of the U.S. war on Iraq.
The so-called war against Iraq was, in fact, an act of mass murder
and a massive destruction of property. It was a criminal act on
an international level and therefore, a crime against humanity."
David Model
"One million Iraqis have
paid with their lives for America's crimes and four million are
displaced. Iraq and its infrastructure are in ruins, and Iraq's
professional elites, necessary to a modern organized society,
are dead or dispersed. The US government has committed a war crime
on a grand scale."
Paul Craig Roberts, 2009
"Since the end of the Cold
War, the United States of America has systematically violated
the prohibition against the threat or use of force contained in
the UN Charter and the Kellogg Briand Pact. It has carved out
a regime of impunity for its crimes based on its UN Security Council
veto, non-recognition of international courts and sophisticated
"information warfare" that undermines the rule of law
with political justifications for otherwise illegal threats and
uses of force.
... In their efforts to uphold international law. In effect, the
U.S. has pursued a successful diplomatic policy of "divide
and conquer" to neutralize global opposition to wars that
have killed about 2 million people and plunged country after country
into intractable chaos."

"U.S. military forces were
directly responsible for about 10 to 15 million deaths during
the Korean and Vietnam Wars and the two Iraq Wars.
... The United States was also responsible for 14 million deaths
in Afghanistan, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, East
Timor, Guatemala, Indonesia, Pakistan and Sudan.
... The United States most likely has been responsible since WWII
for the deaths of between 20 and 30 million people in wars and
conflicts scattered over the world."

"In the United States,
we were told that the relentless U.S.-led NATO blitzkrieg (23,000
"dumb" bombs and "smart" missiles rained upon
Yugoslavia for 79 days) was necessary to protect the human rights
of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo. The U.S. Senate labeled Serbia
a "terrorist state".
Yet what could be more "terrorist" than dropping upon
civilians - from the sanctuary of high altitude, and from computer-guided
missiles - radioactive depleted-uranium weapons and outlawed cluster
bombs designed to rip human flesh to shreds? Was it not terrorism
to deliberately target the entire infrastructure of this small
nation, including the electrical and water filtration systems
critical to the survival of civilians? Was it not terrorism to
obliterate 200 factories and destroy the jobs of millions of workers?
What of the constant air assault-"fire from the sky"-
against cities, villages, schools, hospitals, senior residences,
TV towers and studios, oil refineries, chemical plants, electrical
power plants, transmission towers, gas stations, homes, farms,
marketplaces, buses, trains, railroad lines, bridges, roads, medieval
monasteries, churches, historic monuments -destruction amounting
to more than $100 billion? What of the incalculable destruction
of the environment, including the deliberate bombardment of chemical
plants. Above all, was it not terrorism to kill, maim, traumatize,
impoverish, or render homeless tens of thousands of men, women,
and children?
Not only was NATO's war a reprehensible act of inhumanity, it
was also in contravention of all norms of international law, including
the Charter of the United Nations."

"The propaganda system
allows the U.S. Ieadership to commit crimes without limit and
with no suggestion of misbehavior or criminality; in fact, major
war criminals like Henry Kissinger appear regularly on TV to comment
on the crimes of the derivative butchers.
U.S. Ieaders commit war crimes as a matter of institutional necessity,
as their imperial role calls for keeping subordinate peoples in
their proper place and assuring a "favorable climate of investment"

"When our military is no

"These are some examples of
repressive regimes being backed by the US: Algeria, where they
annulled an election, they stole an election, they do systematic
torture; Ethiopia, where there's mass hunger among the population,
but where the US is building up the Ethiopian army and using them
against Somalia; Saudi Arabia, the most religious extremist, anti-woman
dictatorship in the world; Jordan, a torture center-the Jordanian
intelligence outfit was, in the words of George Tenet, owned by
the CIA, and both the CIA and Israel use it for torture; Rwanda,
whose army and paramilitaries have been pillaging and raping and
massively killing in the eastern Congo; Congo itself, Secretary
of State Clinton went there and made a good denunciation of rape
by the Congolese army, and as that was happening, the US was delivering
weapons and training to that same Congolese army; Indonesia, where
the army now de facto occupies and terrorizes Papua and has recently
resumed assassinations in Aceh, the other end of the archipelago;
Colombia, where army and army-backed militaries are the world's
number-one killer of labor activists; Uzbekistan, massive torture
backed simultaneously by the US and Russia; Thailand, where officers
who-US officers who I spoke to use their US training in what they
call "target selection" to assassinate and disappear
Muslim rebels in the south; Nepal, where US Green Berets for years
created old Guatemala-style civil patrols that carried out lynchings
against pro-Maoist forces and civilians in the countryside; India,
where the police do daily torture and where their own officers
talk about using terror against villages in the Naxalite rebel
areas; Egypt, one of the world's leading torture states and Israel's
accomplice in the blockade and hungering of Gaza; Honduras, where
the army recently staged a coup when the oligarchy's president,
Zelaya, turned against his fellow oligarchs; Israel, which committed
aggression against Gaza using US white phosphorus and cluster
bombs as the US was-the US was shipping in new materiel as this,
you know, attack was underway; and the Palestinian Authority in
the West Bank, where, as the British Guardian just reported, the
security forces are doing systematic torture of Hamas people and
other dissidents under CIA sponsorship. And that's only a partial
list. "

"The 14,000 tons of bombs
dropped upon Afghanistan between October [2001] and February [2002]
killed a conservatively estimated 3,100 to 3,500 civilians upon
impact. These do not include persons dying later from injuries,
from exploding cluster bombs, from hunger, disease, and cold as
U.S. bombing hampered relief efforts. From the data I have, about
70 percent of these casualties are women and children."

"In its invasion-occupation
of Iraq, the "coalition" has used both cluster bombs
and depleted uranium in attacks on civilian-rich sites, in violation
of the Geneva Convention. But Saddam Hussein alone will be tried
for war crimes and crimes against humanity. It is a trial that
he fully deserves, but justice is only partially and poorly served
when it is selective and, in this case, organized by those who
have opportunistically supported the criminal in the past and
who have carried out crimes of their own that can easily match
those of the chosen villain."
Edward S. Herman, 2004
"The invasion of Iraq was
a bandit act, an act of blatant state terrorism, demonstrating
absolute contempt for the concept of international law. The invasion
was an arbitrary military action inspired by a series of lies
upon lies and gross manipulation of the media and therefore of
the public; an act intended to consolidate American military and
economic control of the Middle East masquerading-as a last resort-all
other justifications having failed to justify themselves-as liberation
.... We have brought torture, cluster bombs, depleted uranium,
innumerable acts of random murder, misery, degradation and death
to the Iraqi people and call it "bringing freedom and democracy
to the Middle East."

"The Socialist Federation
of Yugoslavia, formed after World War II, contained six republics,
none of which had a majority.
... In 45 years the Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia developed
from an impoverished, underdeveloped, feuding region into a stable
country with an industrial base, full literacy and health care
for the whole population.
... With the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s,
the Pentagon immediately laid plans for the aggressive expansion
of NATO into the East. Divide and rule became U.S. policy throughout
the entire region. Everywhere right-wing, pro-capitalist forces
were financed and encouraged. As the Soviet Union was broken up
into separate, weakened, unstable and feuding republics, the Socialist
Federation of Yugoslavia tried to resist this reactionary wave.In
1991, while world attention was focused on the devastating U.S.
bombing of Iraq, Washington encouraged, financed and armed right-wing
separatist movements in the Croatian, Slovenian and Bosnian republics
of the Yugoslav Federation. In violation of international agreements
Germany and the U.S. gave quick recognition to these secessionist
movements and approved the creation of several capitalist ministates.
... Washington initiated a wild propaganda campaign claiming that
Serbia was carrying out a campaign of massive genocide against
the Albanian majority in Kosovo. The Western media was full of
stories of mass graves and brutal rapes.
U.S./NATO officials under the Clinton administration issued an
outrageous ultimatum that Serbia immediately accept military occupation
and surrender all sovereignty or face NATO bombardment of its
cities, towns and infrastructure. When, at a negotiation session
in Rambouillet, France, the Serbian Parliament voted to refuse
NATO's demands, the bombing began.
In 78 days the Pentagon dropped 35,000 cluster bombs, used thousands
of rounds of radioactive depleted-uranium rounds, along with bunker
busters and cruise missiles. The bombing destroyed more than 480
schools, 33 hospitals, numerous health clinics, 60 bridges, along
with industrial, chemical and heating plants, and the electrical
grid.
... Finally on June 3, 1999, Yugoslavia was forced to agree to
a ceasefire and the occupation of Kosovo.
Expecting to find bodies everywhere, forensic teams from 17 NATO
countries organized by the Hague Tribunal on War Crimes searched
occupied Kosovo all summer of 1999... They found not one mass
grave and could produce no evidence of massacres or of 'genocide'."

DEPLETED URANIUM
"At Basra, Iraq's Children's
and Maternity Hospital, doctors display a large photo album of
hundreds of children born with horrible birth defects.
One study conducted by Iraqi doctors indicated that 0.776 percent
of Basra-area children were born with birth defects in 1998, compared
to just 0.304 percent in 1990, before the Gulf War. Another study
showed a rise in childhood cancers and other malignancies of 384.2
percent from 1990--2000.
Iraqi doctors, and an increasing number of western scientists,
attribute the rise in diseases and birth defects to the U.S. and
British use of depleted uranium. Iraqi doctors said they have
found highly elevated rates of cancers in those parts of Basra
where depleted uranium ammunition was used. The Pentagon confirms
firing 320 tons of DU ammunition during the Gulf War."
Norman Solomon
"The empire's scribes appear
to be as amoral as the officials in the White House and the Pentagon.
After all, the particles of depleted uranium are not lodging inside
their lungs to radiate for the rest of their lives; the World
Bank and International Monetary Fund are not bankrupting their
economy and slashing their basic services; it's not their families
wandering as refugees in the desert."
William Blum, 2004
"Depleted uranium [DU]
is a war crime. It's that simple. Once you've scattered all this
stuff around, and then refuse to clean it up, you've committed
a war crime."
Dr. Doug Rokke, University of Illinois

"Laws which are breached
by the use of depleted uranium (DU) shells include: the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights; the Charter of the United Nations;
the Genocide Convention; the Convention Against Torture; and the
four Geneva Conventions of 1949, which expressly forbid employing
"poison or poisoned weapons" and "arms, projectiles
or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering".
All of these laws are designed to spare civilians from unwarranted
suffering in armed conflicts."
UN Subcommission on the Promotion
and Protection of Human Rights
"In April 1991, during
the Gulf War, the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority claimed
that U.S. ground forces fired between 5000 and 6000 rounds of
depleted radiation ordnance in Iraq. In addition, U.S. and British
aircraft launched approximately 50,000 DU rockets and missiles.
DU weapons burst into flames creating uranium oxide that spreads
and contaminates bodies, equipment, and the ground. The uranium-238
that is used to make the weapons causes cancer and genetic defects.
According to the report of the UK Atomic Energy Authority, 40
tonnes of radioactive debris could kill 500,000 people.
... The exact amount of depleted uranium used in the bombing of
Iraq is not known but it has been estimated to be about 375 tons
in the 1991 war. The radiation from these weapons does not discriminate
between military personnel and civilians. Depleted uranium may
be a contributing factor to cases of "Gulf War Syndrome"
affecting American veterans of the 1991 bombing of Iraq.
... The Pentagon and the United Nations estimate that the U.S.
and Britain used 1,100 to 2,200 tons of armor-piercing shells
made of depleted uranium during attacks on Iraq in March and April
of 2003, far more than the 375 tons used in the 1991 Gulf War."
David Model
"In the assault on Fallujah,
Iraq in 2004, the US military uses depleted uranium, also known
as spent nuclear fuel, in armor-piercing shells and bullets because
it is twice as dense as lead. Once these shells hit their target,
however, as much as 40 percent of the uranium is released in the
form of tiny particles in the area of the explosion. It can remain
there for years, easily entering the human bloodstream, where
it lodges itself in lymph glands and attacks the DNA produced
in the sperm and eggs of affected adults, causing, in turn, serious
birth defects in the next generation.
After 2005 the proportion of girls born in Fallujah has increased
sharply. In normal populations, 1050 boys are born for every 1000
girls. But among those born in Fallujah in the four years after
the US assault, the ratio was reduced to 860 boys for every 1000
female births. This alteration is similar to gender ratios found
in Hiroshima after the US atomic attack of 1945.
The most likely reason for the change in the sex ratio, according
to the researchers, is the impact of a major mutagenic event-likely
the use of depleted uranium in US weapons. While boys have one
X-chromosome, girls have a redundant X-chromosome and can therefore
absorb the loss of one chromosome through genetic damage.
... The US military's decision to heavily deploy depleted uranium
was a wanton act of brutality, poisoning an entire generation
of children not yet born in 2004."
Tom Eley, 2010
"The US dropped 88,000
tons of bombs on Iraq during the Gulf War and has rained down
countless more bombs since. Many bombs were tipped with armor
piercing depleted uranium (DU) warheads, which may account for
chronic Iraqi health problems. Three hundred tons of DU ammunition
was deployed during the war."
Dean Henderson, 2005
"After the start of the
Iraq war, rates of cancer, leukemia and birth defects rose dramatically
in Najaf. The areas affected by American attacks saw the biggest
increases. We believe it's because of the' illegal' weapons like
depleted uranium that were used by the Americans. When you visit
the hospital here you see that cancer is more common than the
flu."
Iraqi physian Dr. Sundus Nsaif,
2013
"The World Health Organisation
(WHO) has categorically refused in defiance of its own mandate
to share evidence uncovered in Iraq that US military use of Depleted
Uranium and other weapons have not only killed many civilians,
but continue to result in the birth of deformed babies.
... In a 2004 WHO expert report on the long-term health of Iraq's
civilian population resulting from depleted uranium (DU) weapons.
The study by three leading radiation scientists cautioned that
children and adults could contract cancer after breathing in dust
containing depleted uranium [DU], which is radioactive and chemically
toxic. But it was blocked from publication by the World Health
Organization (WHO), which employed the main author, Dr Keith Baverstock,
as a senior radiation advisor. He alleges that it was deliberately
suppressed, though this is denied by WHO.
Almost nine years later, a joint WHO-Iraqi Ministry of Health
Report on cancers and birth defect in Iraq was to be released
in November 2012. It has been delayed repeatedly and now has no
release date."

The US government sought to prevent
the World Health Organization (WHO) from surveying areas in southern
Iraq where depleted uranium had been used and caused serious health
and environmental dangers."

Secretary General of the United Nations
"Many believe DU [depleted
uranium] is responsible for Gulf War Syndrome, which has killed
and permanently injured many US soldiers who fought in the Persian
Gulf theater. Since 2000, nearly 11,000 US Gulf War veterans have
died from Gulf War Syndrome."
Dean Henderson, 2005
"In 2010, a study of cancers,
leukemia's and birth defects linked to the use of DU (depleted
uranium) in Iraq proved that there were massive increases in cancer,
a 38-fold increase in leukemia, 10-fold increase in breast cancer
and infant mortalities were staggering."
Felicity Arbuthnot, 2015
"There is every relation
between congenital malformation and depleted uranium. Before 1991,
we saw nothing like this at all. If there is no connection, why
have these things not happened before? Most of these children
have no family history of cancer. I have studied what happened
in Hiroshima. It is almost exactly the same here. We have an increased
percentage of congenital malformation, an increase of malignancy,
leukaemia, brain tumours: the same."
Dr Ginan Hassen, pediatrician in
Basra, Iraq, after the first Gulf War
"Since the 1991 US-NATO
war aggression against Yugoslavia using highly toxic and radioactive
uranium projectiles, the enormity of this war crime becomes clear:
In Serbia, aggressive cancer among young and old has reached epidemic
proportions.
... Every day a child suffers from cancer. The entire country
is contaminated. By harming the genetic material (DNA) generation
after generation, malformed children will be born.
... Due to the long degradation process of radioactivity and toxicity,
waste from the uranium and nuclear industries - mainly DU from
isotope 238 - are stored in secure landfills for a very long time.
To reduce the high cost, DU is given free of charge to interested
parties such as the military. DU has characteristics that are
particularly attractive for the defense industry: The DU projectiles
- developed according to German technology - have a high penetrating
power because of the high density of the metallic uranium and
are particularly suitable for breaking steel armor and underground
concrete bunkers. DU is also a flammable material that ignites
spontaneously when penetrating an armor plate and at 3000 degrees
Celsius burns to uranium oxide dust while releasing highly toxic
and radioactive substances (uranium oxide).
This uranium oxide aerosol with particle sizes in the Nano scale
reaches the human body through the air, water and, in the long
term, through the food chain.
... In the lungs, the DU dust particles are also attached to the
red and white blood cells and thus reach all organs of the body,
including the brain, the kidney and the testes, so that in many
organs cancer is produced and the genetic material (DNA) irreversibly
damaged. The strong carcinogenicity of DU is due to the synergistic
effects of chemo- and radio toxicity. Through the placenta, the
DU can also reach an unborn child and cause serious harm to it.
Potential long-term damage includes genetic defects in infants,
childhood leukemia, cancer and kidney damage."
Dr. Rudolf Hänsel, 2017
"It is clear that the Pentagon
knew about the health risks long before Operation Desert Storm
(1991) emanating from uranium-containing ammunition. Numerous
military reports have acknowledged that uranium-238 can cause
kidney damage, lung and bone cancer, lung disease, skin diseases,
neurocognitive disorders, chromosome damage and birth defects."
Dr. Helen Caldicott in her book

"In Iraq after the Gulf
War, childhood mortality spiralled. Cancers soared, linked to
the depleted uranium weapons used in the 1991 bombardment."
Special Rapporteur to the UN Martti
Ahtisaari
"Aerosol DU (Depleted Uranium)
exposures to soldiers on the battlefield could be significant
with potential radiological and toxicological effects. Under combat
conditions, the most exposed individuals are probably ground troops
that re-enter a battlefield following the exchange of armour-piercing
munitions. We are simply highlighting the potential for levels
of DU exposure to military personnel during combat that would
be unacceptable during peacetime operations... DU is a low level
alpha radiation emitter which is linked to cancer when exposures
are internal, and chemical toxicity causing kidney damage. Short
term effects of high doses can result in death, while long term
effects of low doses have been linked to cancer."
Science and Applications International
Corporation report: ' Kinetic Energy Penetrator Environment and
Health Considerations', July 1990
[These documents state clearly and equivocally that the US army
was well aware of the radioactive and toxic dangers of Depleted
Uranium ammunition long before the first shots of the war were
fired.]
CLUSTER BOMBS
"Neither I nor my colleagues
have ever seen such horrific wounds as those caused by cluster
bombs. They are wounds that lead to disabilities. The limbs are
so crushed that the only remaining option is amputation."
Yugoslav orthopedist during the
U.S. bombing of Yugoslavia in the 1990s
"U.S. forces adopted a
"bomb them with butter" strategy in Afghanistan-until
media sources revealed that the cluster bombs the U.S. dropped
could be easily mistaken for food packets. Despite this blatant
Pentagon attempt at "humanitarian'' propaganda, only a courageous
few famine-relief and refugee-aid NGOs criticized it. Most remained
silent."
Lance Selfa, 2002
"Dropping cluster-bombs
on highly populated areas doesn't result in accidental fatalities.
It is purposeful terror bombing."
George Kenner, a former State Department
official
"The Bush administration's
open contempt for international law, including the use of cluster
bombs in Afghanistan, stood in direct violation of the 1949 Geneva
Conventions for the Protection of War Victims."
Bill Keach, 2003
"Cluster bombs are landmines.
The crucial difference from those banned under international treaty
is that they are dropped from aircraft. At the time of writing,
an estimated 70,000 American cluster 'bomblets' lie unexploded
in Afghanistan, already the most landmined country in the world."
John Pilger
"Tens or hundreds of thousands
of innocent civilians are killed by the carpet bombing of cluster
bombs; they are aimed at an area, not a target. Such bombs contain
as many as 900 separate "bomblets" designed to be indiscriminate
In Iraq, 1 to 1.5 million were dropped."
Wall Street Journal, 2003
"When the United States
bombed Iraq in 1991 for invading Kuwait, it dropped 62,000 air-delivered
cluster bombs and delivered 110,000 by other means, littering
the country with 24 to 30 million unexploded sub munitions literally
a disaster waiting to happen.
NATO bombed Serbia into submission under the pretext of a humanitarian
war. During the bombing, the United States, Britain, and Holland
dropped 1,765 cluster bombs containing more than 295,000 cluster
bomblets. Not only did the cluster bombs result in civilian casualties
and destroy non-military targets, but an estimated 20,000 unexploded
bombs remained after the war waiting for innocent civilians to
set them off.
After 9/11, the United States launched its War on Terrorism. The
first acts were the bombing of Afghanistan to eradicate the Taliban
accused of harbouring terrorists, the destruction of terrorist
training camps, and the attempted capture of terrorists, including
the head of Al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden. The U.S. dropped 1,228
cluster bombs containing 248,056 bomblets leaving an estimated
12,400 duds with the potential to kill years after the conflict.
The use of cluster bombs violates the First Protocol, Chapter
II, Article 51 of the Geneva Conventions. This falls under the
category of protection of civilians, "indiscriminate weapons"
and weapons which "are of a nature to strike military objectives
and civilian or civilian objects without distinction."
David Model
"Most of the Army's cluster
munitions have an official 'dud' rate of 16 percent, but the actual
rate is much higher; in Kosovo, some estimates put it as high
as 25 percent. Over the course of the invasion period in Iraq,
more than 2 million bomblets were released. Even at the official
rate, that leaves about 300,000 tiny bombs waiting in fields,
trees, roofs, or yards, for a child, a farmer, or even a patrolling
soldier to nudge the wrong way."
Norman Solomon, 2003
"Four out of every ten
people killed or injured by cluster bombs are children. Cluster
bombs are built to explode above the ground, releasing thousands
of bomblets primed to detonate on impact. But combat statistics
show between 10 percent and 40 percent fail to go off and lie
primed in the target area to kill and injure civilians."
commondreams.org, 2008
"During the last 72 hours
of Israel's attacks on Lebanon in 2006, Israel fired over 1,800
cluster rockets containing 1.2 million submunitions. For the two
months after the official cessation of hostilities, casualties
were still being recorded at the rate of three or four people
killed or maimed per day. Israel, both a manufacturer and user
of cluster bombs, is among the states opposed to an international
ban."
David Cronin, 2008
"Between 1964 and 1973,
the US Air Force dropped 260 million cluster bombs on Laos, or
the equivalent of a fully-loaded B-52 bomber's payload dropped
every eight minutes for nine years.
... Worldwide, about 100,000 people have been
killed or maimed by cluster bombs since 1965, 98 percent of them
civilians."
rawstory.com, 2008
"The United Nations estimated
that Israel used up to 4 million cluster bombs in Lebanon against
Hezbollah guerrillas."
spiegel.de, 2008
"During the Lebanon war
(2007), Israel destroyed much of Lebanon's infrastructure in a
month of intensive air strikes. Even in the war's last few hours,
as a ceasefire was being finalized, Israel fired more than a million
cluster bombs over south Lebanon, apparently in the hope that
the area could be made as uninhabitable as possible."
Jonathan Cook, 2009
"The deadly trade in cluster
bombs is funded by the world's biggest banks who have loaned or
arranged finance worth $20bn to firms producing the controversial
weapons, despite growing international efforts to ban them.
HSBC has profited more than any other institution from companies
that manufacture cluster bombs. The British bank has earned a
total of £657.3m in fees arranging bonds and share offerings
for Textron, which makes cluster munitions.
Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, JP Morgan and UK-based Barclays
Bank are also named among the worst banks funding the production
of cluster bombs."
The Guardian newspaper, London
"Beginning in April 2004,
the U.S. laid siege to the Fallujah, forcing most of the population
to evacuate, then shelled and bombed it-including with white phosphorous
and cluster bombs. White phosphorous can melt skin and flesh right
down to the bone. U.S. soldiers called it "shake and bake."
Its use is generally considered a war crime because it's an indiscriminate
killer."
Larry Everest, 2015
"A third of the bombs dropped
on Laos failed to explode on impact, thus becoming UXO. Some of
the most harmful munitions were cluster bombs, which were dropped
inside casings meant to open in mid-air and spread the "bomblets"
over a wide area. About 80 million cluster bombs didn't detonate;
less than one percent of all UXO has been cleared.
Typical victims of UXO include farmers, scrap metal collectors,
and children. Farmers often know explosives may be lurking beneath
their fields, but must plough them anyway or lose their livelihood.
Scrap metal collectors find old bombs for the purpose of selling
the metal in them for a few pennies, often mistakenly believing
they are dead. Many victims of cluster bombs are children, because
the small, round shape of the explosives look like toys.
Since 9/11, the United States has used cluster bombs in Afghanistan,
Iraq, and Yemen. The US has also exported cluster bombs to numerous
countries, including Israel (which used them in its assault on
Lebanon in 2006) and Saudi Arabia (which used them to attack Yemen
in 2015).
Brett S. Morris, 2015
"The United States maintains
a stockpile of more than ten million land mines and insists on
the right to produce more and to use them when it sees fit.
... The United States will not join
the international ban on land mines because its terms would have
required us to give up a needed military capability."
Howard Zinn, 2005
"The United States has
not actively used landmines since the first Gulf War in 1991,
but we still possess some 10-15 million of them, making us the
third largest stockpiler in the world, behind China and Russia.
Like those two countries, we have refused to sign an international
agreement banning the manufacture, stockpiling and use of land
mines. Since 1987, 156 other nations have signed it, including
every country in NATO. Amongst that 156, more than 40 million
mines have been destroyed."
Bill Moyers and Michael Winship,
2009
AGENT ORANGE
"In Vietnam from 1965 to
1975, more than 400,000 tons of napalm and 19 million gallons
of herbicides (including 11 million gallons of Agent Orange) were
used to destroy the croplands and half the forests in the country.
More than 2,000,000 Vietnamese - one-ninth of the population -
were killed."
Daniel Hellinger and Dennis Judd
"As noted by the non-partisan
Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C., the herbicide Agent Orange
was a mixture used by the military to defoliate large swaths of
Vietnamese jungle as a way of exposing North Vietnamese and Viet
Cong troops that were using the jungle as cover to move men and
material into South Vietnam. It was part of a color-coded herbicide
campaign that also aimed to deprive the enemy of food by destroying
crops.
The mixture, which was used until the early 1970s, contained a
chemical contaminant known as dioxin. Even though its use ended
more than 40 years ago, the dioxin contaminant continues to have
a harmful effect today. As many Vietnam vets know, dioxin has
been linked to cancers, birth defects, diabetes and other ailments
and disabilities."
J. D. Heyes, 2015
"'Anti-personnel' technology
was deployed with impunity; the bombs which sprayed needles into
flesh and organs and were difficult to detect in X-rays created
little fuss. Although millions of gallons of Agent Orange were
dumped on Vietnam during the 1960s, the outcry about its genetic
and environmental effects came only as the war was ending. The
good old blundering 'green machine' was a murder machine."
John Pilger
"After the Vietnam War,
veterans reported birth defects in their families due to the Agent
Orange spraying in Vietnam. In the first Gulf War there were only
a few hundred battle casualties, but the Veterans Administration
reported recently that in the ten years following the Gulf War,
8,000 veterans died. About 200,000 of the 600,000 veterans of
the Gulf War filed complaints about illnesses incurred from the
weapons our government used in the war."
Howard Zinn, 2003
"From 1961 - 1971, dioxin-containing
defoliant Agent Orange was used, mainly in the South [Vietnam],
Cambodia and Laos. Millions of gallons were sprayed with devastating
consequences because dioxin is one of the most toxic known substances,
a potent carcinogenic human immune system suppressant. It accumulates
in adipose tissue and the liver, alters living cell genetic structures,
causes congenital disorders and birth defects, and contributes
to diseases like cancer and type two diabetes."
Stephen Lendman, 2010
"The Red Cross estimates
that three million Vietnamese have been affected by dioxin, including
at least 150,000 children born with serious birth defects. Millions
of Americans and Vietnamese are still affected, directly and indirectly,
by the wartime U.S. spraying of Agent Orange and other herbicides
over southern and central Vietnam."
J. D. Heyes, 2015
"Planes sprayed the herbicides
directly over at least 3,181 Vietnam villages. At least 2.1 million
inhabitants-and perhaps as many as 4.8 million-would have been
in the villages during the spraying operations in South Vietnam,
whose total population at the time was less than 17 million. Almost
80 disorders have been associated with exposure, including cancers
of the lung and prostate and more than a dozen other malignancies."
San Francisco Chronicle,2003
"Agent Orange is a chemical
weapon and clearly qualifies as a weapon of mass destruction.
It was also aimed primarily at foliage in the jungle which is
clearly a civilian target. Many civilians died or were severely
burned by Agent Orange and many American soldiers who had handled
the defoliant experienced effects many years later. Therefore,
the use of Agent Orange, authorized by President Johnson on March
9, 1965, was a war crime. It should also be noted that this weapon
of mass destruction was used in South Vietnam against the people
whom the United States were supporting in this war."
David Model
"In Vietnam between 1962
and 1971, an estimated 20 million gallons of defoliants were sprayed
on 8 million acres of forests and crops. More than three thousand
villages were contaminated, and 60 percent of the defoliants used
were Agent Orange."
Marie-Monique Robin, 2008
"The United States dropped
more than 6 million tons of bombs during the Indochina war, including
tons of napalm and lethal defoliants like Agent Orange, and it
is directly responsible for the deaths of many of the roughly
1 million civilians who died in that war."
Stephen M. Walt
"The U.S. government has
finally admitted that it poisoned its own troops in Vietnam decades
ago through the mass use of the herbicide known as 'Agent Orange'.
In recent days, federal officials agreed to provide millions of
dollars in disability benefits to at least 2,100 Air Force reservists
and active duty forces that were exposed to Agent Orange on airplanes
used to spread it during the war."
J. D. Heyes, 2015
"Monsanto had assured the
public that their Agent Orange, the defoliant used during the
Vietnam War, was safe for humans. It wasn't. Thousands of veterans
and tens of thousand of Vietnamese who suffered a wide range of
maladies, including cancer, neurological disorders, and birth
defects, blame Monsanto.
Monsanto had also declared their electrical insulator poly-chlorinated
biphenyls (PCBs) as safe. They weren't. Outlawed in 1978, they
have been linked to cancer and birth defects, and are considered
a major environmental hazard."
Jeffrey M. Smith, 2003
"The US has failed to acknowledge
or pay compensation or provide medical assistance to thousands
of deformed children born and still being born due to American
military use of Agent Orange throughout the country.
The millions of gallons of this chemical dumped on rural Vietnam
were eagerly manufactured and sold to the Pentagon by companies
Dupont, Monsanto and others greedy for huge profits."
Denis Halliday, 2013
NAPALM
(WHITE PHOSPHORUS)
"In Iraq, we napalmed those
bridge approaches. Unfortunately there were people there. You
could see them in the cockpit video. They were Iraqi soldiers.
It's no great way to die. The generals love napalm."
Colonel James Alles, a commander
in Iraq in 1991
"All the missions that
we flew were planned by US high military authorities. They are
destroying the country, bombing it with novel weapons, toxic nerve
gas, surface mines dropped with parachutes, bombs containing uranium,
black napalm, sterilization chemicals, spraying to poison the
crops."
Captain de la Hoz , a Spanish pilot
in Serbia, 1999
"In Vietnam, we terrorized
peasant villages with bombing attacks using napalm and cluster
bombs. We supported dictators and death squads in Chile and El
Salvador, Guatemala and Haiti. In Iraq, more than 500,000 Children
died as a result of economic sanctions the United States insisted
on."
Howard Zinn
"In spring 1966, US carpet-bombing
had systematically devastated ancient village-based rural culture
in South Vietnam as napalm rained from the sky, slaughtering helpless
peasants."
William F. Pepper, 2003
"Most people will remember
the picture of the horrified little Vietnamese girl - running
away from her bombed village with her napalm-burnt back - a showcase
of the horror of war, which seems to be forgotten or impossible
to imagine for the Washingtonian 'chicken hawks', sending of all
the ill-informed soldiers to war."
Seymour Hersh, 2005
"The United States dropped
more than 6 million tons of bombs during the Indochina war, including
tons of napalm and lethal defoliants like Agent Orange, and it
is directly responsible for the deaths of many of the roughly
1 million civilians who died in that war."
Stephen M. Walt
"The New York Times stated
that 17,000,000 pounds of napalm were used in Korea just in the
first 20 months of the war. More bomb tonnage was dropped on Korea
by the US than the US dropped on Japan in World War Two. American
forces hunted down and murdered not only communist party members
but also their families."
Christopher Black, 2017
"Beginning in April 2004,

MERCHANTS OF DEATH
THE WEAPONS INDUSTRY
"We dwarf the Russians
or anyone else who sells weapons in the world. We are the death
merchant of the world."
Lawrence Wilkerson, 2018
"What the lobbyists for
the military-industrial complex and their allies must do to make
the case for a huge peacetime military is to find wars to fight
abroad even when they make no sense."
Robert Scheer
"Bill Clinton's expansion
of NATO was for Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon, and Boeing, and
others, to increase their network of potential weapon sales."
Lawrence Wilkerson, 2018
"The conjunction of an
immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new
in the American experience. The total influence - economic, political,
even spiritual-is felt in every city, every state house, and every
office of the federal government. We recognize the imperative
need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend
its grave implications.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition
of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial
complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power
exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our
liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for
granted; only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel
the proper meshing of huge industrial and military machinery of
defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security
and liberty may prosper together."
President Eisenhower's Farewell
Address
"By selling advanced weaponry
throughout the world, wealthy American military contractors not
only weaken national security and squeeze taxpayers at home but
also strengthen dictators and worsen human misery abroad."
Oscar Arias, former president of
Costa Rica, 1999
"The alliance between the
threat-inflating ideologues continuously sounding the alarm about
an ever more menacing enemy and the needs of a military-industrial
complex that required such an enemy in order to secure ever larger
contracts, was a constant feature of the Cold War years."
Robert Scheer
"A recently completed inventory
at a major U.S. Army bio-defense facility found nearly 10,000
more vials of potentially lethal pathogens than were known to
be stored at the Ft. Detrick site. The 9,220 samples discovered
included the bacterial agents that cause plague, anthrax and tularemia;
Venezuelan, Eastern and Western equine encephalitis viruses; Rift
valley fever virus; Junin virus; Ebola virus; and botulinum neurotoxins."
Tom Burghardt, 2009
"We have so much blood
on American hands, throughout the world. And you see all of this
bloodshed, all of this killing. The guns come from the United
States."
Randall Robinson
"There is a very profound
consensus between the two parties on arms spending, which began
under the Democrats a half-century ago and it will not go away.
Arms lobbies are not only very powerful in Washington but create
crucial jobs in most states and military spending keeps the economy
afloat. Weapons producers make money regardless of whether the
Pentagon wins or loses its wars - and making money is their only
objective.
Arms manufacturers have power; strategic lobbies in Washington,
contribute heavily to politicians who need campaign funding, and
gain financially whether America wins or loses it wars. "
Gabriel Kolko, 2007
"We've privatized the ultimate
public function: war. In many respects it is now private interests
that benefit most from our use of military force. Whether it's
private security contractors, that are still all over Iraq or
Afghanistan, or it's the bigger-known defense contractors, like
the number one in the world, Lockheed Martin."
Lawrence Wilkerson, 2018
"George W Bush surrendered
his presidency to those who identified national security with
a wildly expansive U.S. presence in the world. And for the military-industrial
complex, Bush's transformation represented an end to the menace
of fiscal restraint and an enormous windfall of new money from
the government in Washington."
Robert Scheer
"The manufacturers of armaments
are not the only 'merchants of death.' To some extent, indeed,
we all deserve that name. For in so far as we vote for governments
which impose tariffs and quotas, in so far as we support policies
of re-armament, in so far as we consent to our country's policy
of economic, political and military imperialism, in so far even
as we behave badly in private life, we are all doing our bit to
bring the next war nearer.
The small, but politically powerful, minority of financiers and
industrialists is interested in various forms of economic imperialism.
By a judicious use of their resources, the capitalists of highly
industrialized countries stake out claims for themselves within
nominally independent countries. Those claims are then represented
as being the claims of the respective nations, and the quarrels
between the various financial interests concerned become quarrels
between states. The peace of the world has frequently been endangered,
in order that oil magnates might grow a little richer.
In the press, which is owned by rich men, the interests of the
investing minority are always identified with those of the nation
as a whole. Constantly repeated statements come to be accepted
as truths. Innocent and ignorant, most newspaper readers are convinced
that the private interests of the rich are really public interests
and become indignant whenever these interests are menaced by a
foreign power, intervening on behalf of its investing minority.
The interest at stake are the interests of the few; but the public
opinion which demands the protection of these interests is often
a genuine expression of mass emotion. The many really feel and
believe that the dividends of the few are worth fighting for."
Aldous Huxley in his book "Ends
and Means", 1937

is false."
William Casey, CIA Director, February
1981
"Since the anticommunism
hysteria in the years following the Second World War, a bipartisan
consensus has existed on foreign policy. Meaningful political
discourse has been almost absent about foreign policy issues.
So many foreign policy decisions have been placed beyond public
scrutiny, that almost all of what passes as official information
about foreign policy is manufactured by government agencies for
its propaganda effect."
Daniel Hellinger and Dennis R.
Judd Brooks in their book "The Democratic Facade"
"It is not at all uncommon
to grow to adulthood in the United States, even to graduate from
university, and not be seriously exposed to opinions significantly
contrary to these prevailing myths, and know remarkably little
about the exceptionally harmful foreign policy of the government."
William Blum
"According to the propaganda
model, the media will tend to emphasize and ignore news according
to its appropriateness for state and above all corporate ends.
Thus, for example, human rights offences committed by clients
of the United States supporting US corporate aims will tend to
be downplayed or overlooked, while offences by states deemed to
be unsupportive or enemies-of US corporate interests will tend
to be vigorously emphasized.
In Manufacturing Consent, Chomsky and Herman argue that elite
state managers are essentially drawn from - and/or controlled
by - the same pool of managers controlling the major corporations
and, for this reason, state interests are often indistinguishabie
from corporate interests."
David Edwards in his book "Burning
All Illusions"
"If war aims are stated,
which seem to be concerned solely with Anglo-American imperialism,
they will offer little to people in the rest of the world ...
Such aims would also strengthen the most reactionary elements
in the United States and the British Empire. The interests of
other peoples should be stressed, not only those of Europe, but
also of Asia, Africa and Latin America. This would have a better
propaganda effect."
Council on Foreign Relations document
from 1941
"No serious sociologist
any longer believes that the voice of the people expresses any
divine or specially wise and lofty idea. The voice of the people
expresses the mind of the people, and that mind is made up for
it by the group leaders and by those persons who understand the
manipulation of public opinion
... If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind,
is it not possible to control and regiment the masses according
to our will without their knowing about it?
... Whatever attitude one chooses toward this condition we are
dominated by the small number of persons who understand the mental
processes of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control
the public mind and contrive new ways to guide the world.
... Political campaigns today are all sideshows A presidential
candidate may be "drafted" in response to "overwhelming
popular demand," but it is well known that his name may be
decided upon by half a dozen men sitting around a table in a hotel
room. The conscious manipulation of the masses is an important
element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen
mechanism of society constitute an invisible
government which is the true ruling power of our country."
Edward Bernays in his book Propaganda
"The society of experts
will control propaganda and education. It will teach loyalty to
the world government, and make nationalism high treason. The government,
being an oligarchy, will instill submissiveness into the great
bulk of the population It is possible that it may invent ingenious
ways of concealing its own power, leaving the forms of democracy
intact, and allowing the plutocrats or politicians to imagine
that they are cleverly controlling these forms whatever the outward
forms may be, all real power will come to be concentrated in the
hands of those who understand the art of scientific manipulation."
Bertrand Russell
"The result of the manipulation
of society by the Establishment elite has been four major wars
in sixty years, a crippling national debt, abandonment of the
Constitution, suppression of freedom and opportunity, and creation
of a vast credibility gulf between the man in the street and Washington,
D.C. While the transparent device of two major parties trumpeting
artificial differences, circus-like conventions, and the cliché
of "bipartisan foreign policy" no longer carries credibility,
and the financial elite itself recognizes that its policies lack
public acceptance, it is obviously prepared to go it alone without
even nominal public support."
Antony C. Sutton in his book Wall

"Polls conducted in June
(2003) showed that 42% of Americans believed that Iraq had a direct
involvement in what happened ( on 11 September, most of them being
certain that Iraqis were 7 among the 19 hijackers; 55% believed
that Saddam Hussein had close ties to al Qaeda; 34% were convinced
that weapons of mass destruction had recently been found in Iraq
(7% were not ) sure); 24% believed that Iraq had used chemical
or biological weapons against American forces in the war (14%

"We're speaking here of
people who get virtually all their news from the shock-and-awe
tabloid weeklies, AM-radio talk shows, and television news programs
which, because of marketplace pressure, aim low in order to reach
the widest possible audience, resulting in short programs with
lots of commercials, weather, sports, and entertainment. These
news sources don't necessarily have to explicitly state falsehoods
to produce distorted views; they need only channel to their audience
a continuous stream of statements from the government and conservative
"experts" justifying the war as if they were neutral
observers; ignore contrary views except when an expert is on hand
to ridicule them and label them "conspiracy theories";
and never put it all together in a coherent enlightening manner.
[There is a] constant drip-drip of one- sided information, from
sources who can be described as stenographers for the powers-that-be."
William Blum
"Today Americans are ruled
by propaganda. Americans have little regard for truth, little
access to it, and little ability to recognize it.
Truth is an unwelcome entity. It is disturbing. It is off limits.
Those who speak it run the risk of being branded "anti-American,"
"anti-semite" or "conspiracy theorist."
Truth is an inconvenience for government and for the interest
groups whose campaign contributions control government.
Truth is an inconvenience for prosecutors who want convictions,
not the discovery of innocence or guilt.
Truth is inconvenient for ideologues."
Paul Craig Roberts, 2010
"Most Americans have no
idea that what we are fed by the news media (televised and paper-print
news) is nothing more than a portrayal of what powerful corporations
(those who pay the salaries of those who run mass media) want
us to believe, that what happens to pass as education is as often
as not mere propaganda (e.g. that Americans are the good guys
and their enemies are, without exception, always the bad guys),
that what we learn in church may have very little or nothing to
do with the truth, that what our parents teach us may be nothing
more than an accumulation of their own personal biases no doubt
a rather subtle modification of what they were taught by their
parents. And through such a process, governments and nations around
the world wield control as to what their citizens, believe, value,
and do."
Doug Soderstrom, 2005

might be defined as the ability to see through the bullshit which
every society, past, present and future, feeds its citizens from
birth on to assure the continuance of the prevailing ideology."
William Blum
"I've been a journalist
for about 25 years, and I was educated to lie, to betray, and
not to tell the truth to the public.
But seeing right now within the last months how the German and
American media tries to bring war to the people in Europe, to
bring war to Russia - this is a point of no return and I'm going
to stand up and say it is not right what I have done in the past,
to manipulate people, to make propaganda against Russia, and it
is not right what my colleagues do and have done in the past because
they are bribed to betray the people, not only in Germany, all
over Europe."
Dr. Udo Ulfkotte, journalist and
German political scientist, 2014
[in his book and on public television stated that while working
as a journalist he was forced to print the work of intelligence
agents under his own name]
"The most powerful component
of any fear and disinformation campaign rests with the CIA, which
secretly subsidizes authors, journalists and media critics, through
a web of private foundations and CIA-sponsored front organizations.
... Disinformation is routinely "planted" by CIA operatives
in the newsroom of major dailies, magazines and TV channels. Outside
public relations firms are often used to create "fake stories"."
Michel Chossudovsky in his book
" America's War on Terrorism"
"Selling fear to the American
people has become a mainstay of the press and of both political
parties in this country. Taking a "tough on crime" stance,
particularly in a climate of perpetual fear created by the "war
on drugs" and the "war on terrorism," is always
a politically safe posture... By focusing on crime, attention
is effectively directed away from more divisive issues on which
a politician might have to take a stand that would cost them votes.
Meanwhile, a fearful populace continues to surrender their civil
rights and constitutional protections at an alarming rate, so
that their government may protect them from the rampant criminality
of the masses."
David McGowan in his book "Derailing
Democracy"
"It takes a lot of repetition
while an American is growing up to inculcate this message into
their young consciousness, and lots more repetition later on.
The education of an American true-believer is ongoing, continuous
- schoolbooks, comic books, church sermons, Hollywood films, all
forms of media, all the time; hardened into historical concrete."
William Blum
"In the late 1940s and
early 1950s, Operation Mockingbird was a secret CIA effort to
influence and control the American media, and thus to influence
and control the information received by the American people.
... Frank Wisner, the director of the Office of Policy Coordination,
a covert operations unit created under the National Security Council,
recruited Philip Graham of the Washington Post to head the project
within the media industry. By the early 1950s, Wisner 'owned'
respected members of The New York Times, Newsweek, CBS and other
communications vehicles.
... Among the executives who lent their cooperation to the CIA
were Williarn Paley of the Columbia Broadcasting System, Henry
Luce of Tirne Inc., Arthur Hays Sulzberger of the New York Times,
Barry Bingham Sr. of the LouisviIle Courier_Journal, and James
Copley of the Copley News Service. Other organizations which cooperated
with the CIA include the American Broadcasting Company, the National
Broadcasting Company, the Associated Press, United Press International,
Reuters, Hearst Newspapers, Scripps_Howard, Newsweek magazine,
the Mutual Broadcasting System, the Miami Herald and the old Saturday
Evening Post and New York Herald Tribune.
... Contrary to the notion that the CIA insidiously infiltrated
the journalistic community, there is ample evidence that America's
leading publishers and news executives allowed themselves and
their organizations to become handmaidens to the intelligence
services.
... In 1975, the idea that the corporate media would lie and that
the CIA would push fake stories for propaganda purposes was shocking
but, in 2017, not so much.
Indeed, many things were shocking in 1975 that scarcely appear
on the radar screen today. This is how far Americans have come
down a path of acceptance of the loss of rights or even the appearance
of honesty. This says nothing of the massive amount of control
the CIA and other related interests have over the entertainment
industry."
Brandon Turbeville, 2017
"Once the core assumptions
of a disinformation campaign have been embedded in the news chain,
both the printed press and network TV establish their own self-sustaining
routine of fabricating the news."
Michel Chossudovsky in his book
" America's War on Terrorism"
"Media disinformation largely
serves the interests of a handful of global banks and institutional
speculators which use their command over financial and commodity
markets to amass vast amounts of money wealth."
F. WIlliam Engdahl
"There's the story from
the Cold War about a group of Russian writers touring the United
States. They were astonished to find, after reading the newspapers
and watching television, that almost all the opinions on all the
vital issues were the same.
One Russian writer asked:
In our country to get that result we have a dictatorship. We imprison
people. We torture them. Here you have none of that. How do you
do it? What's the secret?"
a story about Russian writers touring
the United States
"There is no such thing,
at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent
press. You know it and I know it.
There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions,
and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear
in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of
the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar
salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish
as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking
for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in
one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation
would be gone.
The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie
outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon,
and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You
know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent
press?
We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We
are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our
talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property
of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."
John Swinton, preeminent New York
journalist, at a press banquet,1880
"A cynical, mercenary,
demagogic press will produce in time a people as base as itself."
Joseph Pulitzer
"The main media bias is
in favor of the thieves who stole our country and economy, and
own the mainstream media companies. The omnipresent mainstream
media is the greatest weapon of oppression humanity has ever known."
David DeGraw
"We are grateful to the
Washington Post, the New York Times, Time magazine, and other
great publications whose directors have attended our meetings
and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years.
It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the
world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during
those years. But the world is now more sophisticated and prepared
to march towards a world government. The supra-national sovereignty
of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable
to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."
David Rockefeller - Council on
Foreign Relations, June 1991
"To keep information from
the public is the function of the corporate media."
Gore Vidal
"The problem is not that
a computer network [Internet] offers an alternative to the information
aristocracy. The true crisis is that neither the news media nor
the government has enough credibility to be accepted as either
truthful or impartial on their own."
military writer William M. Arkin
"One of the best kept secrets
is the degree to which a handful of giant conglomerates, all belonging
to the secret Bilderberg Group, Council on Foreign Relations,
NATO, the Club of Rome, and the Trilateral Commission, control
the world's flow of information. They determine what we see on
television, hear on the radio and read in newspapers, magazines,
books, or on the Internet."
Daniel Estulin in his book "The
Bilderberg Group"
"If you don't read the
newspaper, you're uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you're
misinformed."
Mark Twain
"Most newspapers are part
of huge conglomerates, and the policy that comes down is that
you don't rock any boats. You can't make the government upset
because the value of the company is the broadcast licenses, and
the government will not renew them, and we can't make our corporate
owners mad because they will fire us, and we can't make the advertisers
mad or they will pull their advertising. So the media can't say
anything that will upset the power structure. And that's what
had happened to the press."
Paul Craig Roberts
"What [the press] do is
they tell you lies; lies they already know you want to hear. Just
as politicians look to polls to determine their policies, letting
poorly-informed people lead them on important issues, the press
can figure out what its readers or viewers believe, and make a
hell of a living pandering to their egos and telling them that
they're smart."
Allan Uthman, 2007
"News Corp, Disney, Viacom,
Time Warner, CBS and Comcast own 90% of the TV stations, radio
stations, movies, magazines and newspapers that Americans rely
on for news and entertainment."
Michael Snyder, 2017
"The major news media that
serve at the pleasure of a commercial oligarchy that pays them,
and pays them handsomely, for their pretense of speaking truth
to power... The prominent figures in our contemporary Washington
press corps regard themselves as government functionaries, enabling
and codependent."
Lewis H. Lapham
"The success of print and
TV pundits is based on allying with a prominent point of view
or interest group and serving it."
Paul Craig Roberts
"Images sent over thousands
of miles, well-lit anchors who seem alert to everything of importance
taking place in our world, field reporters in far-flung places
who pop up and respond instantly to the anchors and deliver close-up
accounts of vital events.
And the same important faces of government leaders who, day after
day, are struggling to improve our destiny against great odds,
against intransigent enemies of progress.
All this is delivered to us in the space of a few minutes, each
night, like clockwork.
The television news presents that little show of magic which the
people sorely need. The need never dies. It's eternal.
The television anchors can be obvious oafs, hucksters, cheap con
artists.
They can twist the truth, burn it, hide it, step on it, reverse
it; it doesn't matter."
Jon Rappoport
"For the first time in
human history, there is a concerted strategy to manipulate global
perception. And the mass media are operating as its compliant
assistants, failing both to resist it and to expose it.
The sheer ease with which this machinery has been able to do its
work reflects a creeping structural weakness which now afflicts
the production of our news."
Nick Davies, British investigative
journalist
"The mainstream media is
a conglomerate of collective corporate thought, designed to make
you ignorant and unaware of the realities of the world, of the
important issues, and to hide in the shadows the sacredly guarded
truths of power. Our mainstream media ? the large newspapers,
radio and TV news stations ? are dominated by billion dollar corporations,
whose boards of directors reflect the 'who's who' of the corporate,
political, and financial elite, with former government officials,
industrialists, and bankers controlling the dispersal of information
and the perspectives we are given."
Andrew Gavin Marshall
"By far the most valuable
associations, according to CIA officials have been with the New
York Times, CBS and Time Inc... Over the years, the [CBS] network
provided cover for CIA employees, including at least one well-known
foreign correspondent and several stringers... A high-level CIA
official says that the New York Times provided cover for about
ten CIA operatives between 1950 and 1966.
... [Joseph] Alsop is one of more than 400 American journalists
who in the past twenty-five years have secretly carried out assignments
for the Central Intelligence Agency, according to documents on
file at CIA headquarters. Journalists provided a full range of
clandestine services--from simple intelligence-gathering to serving
as go-betweens with spies in Communist countries."
journalist Carl Bernstein, Rolling
Stone, 1977
"Americans want to have
their beliefs vindicated more than they want the truth."
Paul Craig Roberts
"We hear about the occasions
when there are differences between the mainstream media and the
government. What we don't hear about are the 95 percent of occasions
where the mainstream media faithfully propagate disinformation
stories which are often planted by the CIA, sometimes planted
abroad in newspapers that they may own or that are friendly to
them."
Michael Parenti, 1988
"The powers behind this
New World Order system are those of the global banks and financial
institutions, the military-industrial complex, the oil and energy
giants, the biotech and pharmaceutical conglomerates and the powerful
media and communications giants, which fabricate the news and
overtly influence the course of world events by blatantly distorting
the facts."
Michel Chossudovsky
"Mainstream journalists
in the United States often function more like a fourth branch
of government than a feisty fourth estate. If anything, the patterns
of media bias that characterize sycophantic reporting in "peacetime"
are amplified during a war or a national security crisis.
Since the tragic events of September 11, the separation between
press and state has dwindled nearly to the vanishing point."
Martin A. Lee
"Can anyone name a single
daily newspaper in the United States that is unequivocally opposed
to US foreign policy? Can anyone name a single television network
in the United States that is unequivocally opposed to US foreign
policy? Is there a single daily newspaper or TV network in the
entire United States that has earned the label "opposition
media"?"
William Blum, 2007
"The factual arguments
clearly establish the possibility of controlled demolition of
the WTC buildings on September 11, 2001, yet, there is almost
zero coverage in the corporate media in the US. This is top down
corporate censorship pure and simple. Even if other scientists
can be found to disagree with the study, the policy of ignoring
the topic inside the corporate media is relatively absolute...
Perhaps the mainstream science journalists left their critical
thinking skills at home and gave the scientific method the day
off. Or maybe the real conspiracy exists within the boardrooms
of the corporate mainstream media."
Peter Phillips, 2009
"The main shortcoming of
the establishment media lies in errors of omission, much more
than errors of commission. It's not that they tell bald lies so
much as it is that they leave out parts of stories or entire stories,
or historical reminders, which if included might put the issue
in a whole new light, in a way not compatible with their political
biases."
William Blum
"As news organizations
are increasingly driven by a bottom-line mentality, the news we
get becomes more and more sensational. What is the difference
between Time and Newsweek? Between ABC, NBC, and CBS News? Between
the Washington Post and the New York Times? For all practical
purposes, none. The concentration of media power means that Americans
increasingly get their information from a few sources who decide
what is "news."
Oliver Stone
"The Washington press corps
has grown closer and closer to its sources. It's to the point
where Brit Hume, the ABC correspondent at the White House, plays
tennis with George Bush. Tom Friedman of the New York Times is
very close with Jim Baker. You find these relationships are so
close that reporters don't challenge the subjects of their stories,
they just tell you what the government is saying. In other words,
they've become stenographers for power and not journalists."
David Barsamian
"The limitations of professional
journalism, the influence of owners, the linkages of media institutions
to the power structure of society, and the internalized presuppositions,
have led to what can only be characterized as a palpable double
standard in coverage of the U.S. role in the world.
... The U.S. news media, including our most respected newspapers
like the New York Times, turn a blind eye to U.S. violations of
core international law, having no qualms about playing up the
violations of adversaries. It would be nearly impossible for the
coverage to be more unprincipled."
John Nichols and Robert W. McChesney
"The Wall Street Journal,
probably the most widely read newspaper in the country, heavily
favors the conservative side on any and all questions of public
policy, and both the Washington Post and the New York Times fortify
their op-ed pages with columnists who strongly defend the established
order-William Safire and David Brooks in the Times; Charles Krauthammer,
George Will, and Richard Harwood in the Post. The vast bulk of
the nation's radio talk shows (commanding roughly 80 percent of
the audience) reflect a reactionary bias, and so do all but one
or two of the television talk shows that deal with political topics
on PBS, CNN, and CNBC."
Lewis Lapham
"As the new corporations
began taking over the press, something called "professional
journalism" was invented. To attract big advertisers, the
new corporate press had to appear respectable, pillars of the
establishment-objective, impartial, balanced... in order to be
professional, journalists had to ensure that news and opinion
were dominated by official sources, and that has not changed.
Go through the New York Times on any day, and check the sources
of the main political stories-domestic and foreign-you'll find
they're dominated by government and other established interests.
That is the essence of professional journalism. "
John Pilger, 2007
"Americans have become
perfect subjects for George Orwell's Big Brother. They sit stupidly
in front of the TV news or the New York Times or Washington Post
and absorb the lies fed to them."
Paul Craig Roberts, 2008
"Bilderberg is a powerful
assembly of the world's leading financiers, industrialists and
political operatives. It includes such internationalists as banker
David Rockefeller, heads of state in Europe and high officials
of the U.S. government, White House, Defense, State, Congress
and others.
... High officials of The Washington Post, The New York Times,
and Los Angeles Times and of all three major networks have attended
Bilderberg many times, on the promise of secrecy, to report nothing
and to not use the word "Bilderberg.
Jim Tucker's Bilderberg Diary
"A problem that has been
facing American mainstream journalism for a long time has mainly
to do with access. They want to get their calls returned by the
big guys at Goldman Sachs. So they develop a relationship in which
the journalists themselves become insiders. Too often, consequently,
they do little else than rewrite the press releases they are handed.
This has cost America a lot. Mainstream journalists of The New
York Times and elsewhere were complicit insiders both in the lead-up
to the Iraq war and in the lead-up to the financial meltdown."
Arianna Huffington, 2009
"What we have now is the
Reagan-Bush press corp. It's the press corp that they helped create
- that they created partly by purging those, or encouraging the
purging of those who were not going along, but it was ultimately
the editors and the news executives that did the purging... The
people who succeeded and did well were those who didn't stand
up, who didn't write the big stories, who looked the other way
when history was happening in front of them, and went along either
consciously or just by cowardice with the deception of the American
people."
Robert Parry, 1993
"The CIA developed covert
relationships with about 50 American journalists or employees
of U.S. media organizations. According to one CIA operative, "You
could get a journalist cheaper than a good call girl, for a couple
hundred dollars a month." The agency arranged for the publication
of books to be read in America, and for at least one of these
works to be reviewed favorably in the New York Times."
Peter Dale Scott in his book "The
Road to 9/11"
"During its first fifty
years of existence, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) was
almost never mentioned by any of the moguls of the mass media.
When you realize that the membership of the CFR includes top executives
from the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles
Times, the Knight Newspaper chain, NBC, CBS, Time, Life, Fortune,
Business Week, US News and World Report, and many others, you
can be sure that such anonymity is not accidental."
Gary Allen
"The Council on Foreign Relations
(CFR} control or own major newspapers, magazines, radio and television
networks and the most powerful companies in the book publishing
business."
Admiral Chester Ward, former CFR
member
"The story of an attempted
takeover of executive power in the United States [the plot to
overthrow Franklin Roosevelt] was suppressed, not only by parties
directly interested, but also by several institutions usually
regarded as protectors of constitutional liberty and freedom of
inquiry. Among the groups suppressing information were (1) the
Congress of the United States, (2) the press, notably Time [magazine]
and The New York Times, and (3) the White House itself. It is
also notable that no academic inquiry has been conducted into
what is surely one of the more ominous events in recent American
history."
Antony C. Sutton in his book "Wall
Street and FDR"
"Americans are too broadly
underinformed to digest nuggets of information that seem to contradict
what they know of the world . Instead, news channels prefer to
feed Americans a constant stream of simplified information, all
of which fits what they already know. That way they don't have
to devote more air time or newsprint space to explanations or
further investigations. Politicians and the media have conspired
to infantilize, to dumb down, the American public. At heart, politicians
don't believe that Americans can handle complex truths, and the
news media, especially television news, basically agrees."
Tom Fenton, former CBS foreign
correspondent
"The media are a pitiful
lot. They don't give us any history, they don't give us any analysis,
they don't tell us anything. They don't raise the most basic questions:
Who has the most weapons of mass destruction in the world by far?
Who has used weapons of mass destruction more than any other nation?
Who has killed more people in this world with weapons of mass
destruction than any other nation? The answer: the United States."
Howard Zinn
Tony Cartalucci, 2017
"The media's the most powerful
entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty
and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they
control the minds of the masses."
Malcolm X
"In America, we grew up
thinking that the people that we see on the nightly news are journalists.
But, there is no journalism happening there, only script reading.
That is understood by anyone with a sliver of common sense, and
the objectivity to realize that their newsperson is basically
an actor."
Charlie Robinson, in his book "The
Octopus of Global Control", 2017
"Any dictator would admire
the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media."
Noam Chomsky
"What the press do is they
tell you lies, lies they already know you want to hear. The press
can figure out what its readers or viewers believe, and make a
hell of a living pandering to their egos and telling them that
they're smart. They lie and tell the audience they are right,
and they never have to change your mind about anything. And the
audience rewards them, lauding them and paying them money to keep
hearing those sweet, self-serving lies."
Allan Uthman
"Pravda and Izvestia in
the former Soviet Union would have been hard-pressed to surpass
the American media in their subservience to the official agenda.
They have abandoned the notion of objectivity or even the idea
of providing a public space where problems are discussed and debated.
It's a scandal that reveals the existence of a system of propaganda,
not of serious media so essential in a democratic society."
Edward Herman
"The American people have
become some of the most naïve and gullible folks in the world,
because their press enables it, almost encourages it, with its
undue and sycophantic deference to the government."
Cenk Uygur, 2008
"In March, 1915, the J.P.
Morgan interests, the steel, shipbuilding, and powder interest,
and their subsidiary organizations, got together 12 men high up
in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential
newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them
to control generally the policy of the daily pressThey found it
was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest
papers. An agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was
bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for
each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding
the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies,
and other things of national and international nature considered
vital to the interests of the purchasers."
Congressman Oscar Callaway (TX),
Congressional Record of February 9, 1917
"Reporters will not report
their own insights or contrary evaluations of the official 9/11
story, because to question the government story about 9/11 is
to question the very foundations of our entire modern belief system
regarding our government, our country, and our way of life. To
be charged with questioning these foundations is far more serious
than being labeled a disgruntled conspiracy nut or an anti-government
traitor, or even being sidelined or marginalized within an academic,
government-service, or literary career. To question the official
9/11 story is simply and fundamentally revolutionary."
David Ray Griffin and Peter Dale

"If advertisers, and corporate
sponsors generally, tend to support media which boost their message,
and these media consequently tend to flourish relative to those
not so supported, then we have one example of a tight system of
control that does not at all require a conspiracy theory but simply
the operation of market forces. For advertiser control clearly
extends to the detail of the contents and tone of media. "
David Edwards in his book "Burning
All Illusions"
"In the press, which is
owned by rich men, the interests of the investing minority are
always identified with those of the nation as a whole. Constantly
repeated statements come to be accepted as truths. Innocent and
ignorant, most newspaper readers are convinced that the private
interests of the rich are really public interests and become indignant
whenever these interests are menaced by a foreign power, intervening
on behalf of its investing minority. The interest at stake are
the interests of the few; but the public opinion which demands
the protection of these interests is often a genuine expression
of mass emotion. The many really feel and believe that the dividends
of the few are worth fighting for."
Aldous Huxley in his book "Ends
and Means", 1937
"By the second decade of
the twenty-first century virtually all news and information delivered
to the American public, including publishing, movies, music, TV,
and networks is controlled by a few owners of only six multinational
corporations. These six conglomerates are General Electric (NBC),
Time Warner, Disney, News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany,
and Viacom (former owner of CBS). This media monopoly may not
tell the public how to think, but it certainly sets the agenda
for what to think about. The monopoly creates an electronic "matrix"
all around us.
... Topics such as climate change, gender identity ambiguity,
anti-gun legislation, harmful prescription drugs and vaccines,
and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) continually fill the
media owned by these corporate giants only because such issues
keep society divided and in conflict, which serves to divert public
attention from the true rulers of the world."
Jim Marrs
"The news and truth are
not the same thing."
American journalist Walter Lippmann
(1889-1974)
"Even open-minded people
will often find themselves unable to take seriously the likes
of [Noam] Chomsky, [Edward] Herman, [Howard] Zinn and [Susan]
George on first encountering their work; it just does not seem
possible that we could be so mistaken in what we believe. The
individual may assume that these writers must be somehow joking,
wildly over-stating the case, paranoid, or have some sort of axe
to grind. We may actually become angry with them for telling us
these terrible things about our society and insist that this simply
'can't be true'. It takes real effort to keep reading, to resist
the reassuring messages of the mass media and be prepared to consider
the evidence again."
David Edwards - Burning All Illusions
"You can't believe a word
the American media says. If they say anything correct, it's just
an accident."
Paul Craig Roberts
"What most Americans believe
to be 'Public Opinion' is in reality carefully crafted and scripted
propaganda designed to elicit a desired behavioral response from
the public."
Ken Adachi
"Google is destroying the
most glorious gift humanity was granted in the last 300 years
[the internet]. The future under Google is a fascist dystopia,
their way or the highway, no room for dissidents, no room for
free speech. Google is a boot stomping on your face for eternity.
Google is the deep state. Forget about conventional wars, forget
about spies, forget about intelligence agencies, forget about
all of that. It's all about the internet and Google running the
internet. They decide how you feel, what you think, what information
you can and can't look at, and ultimately who does and doesn't
have a voice."
David Bowie's final message written
weeks before he died, 2015
"Our job is to give people
not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have."
Richard Salant, former President
of CBS News
"There is an Establishment
history, an official history, which dominates history textbooks,
trade publishing, the media and library shelves. The official
line always assumes that events such as wars, revolutions, scandals,
assassinations, are more or less random unconnected events. By
definition events can never be the result of a conspiracy, they
can never result from premeditated planned group action.
... Woe betide any book or author that falls outside the official
guidelines. Foundation support is not there. Publishers get cold
feet. Distribution is hit and miss, or non-existent."
Antony Sutton in his book "America's
Secret Establishment: An Introduction to the Order of Skull and
Bones"
"If the war lies were not
all over the media, people would not learn them in the first place.
If the corrections were heard over and over again, they would
get through. If our communications system allowed the presentation
of a variety of voices and viewpoints and feared promoting falsehoods
more than it feared being insufficiently militaristic, we wouldn't
need to investigate the widespread phenomenon of engaged citizens
certain of their beliefs but completely deluded."
David Swanson
"Those who can make you
believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
Voltaire
"Perhaps the most basic
reason Americans should read [Noam] Chomsky's work today, is simply
to understand the real world in which they live, that which is
obscured by their leaders and the U.S. mass media."

"Many people get virtually
all their news from the shock-and-awe tabloid weeklies, AM-radio
talk shows, and television news programs which, because of marketplace
pressure, aim low in order to reach the widest possible audience,
resulting in short programs with lots of commercials, weather,
sports, and entertainment. These news sources don't necessarily
have to explicitly state falsehoods to produce distorted views;
they need only channel to their audience a continuous stream of
statements from the government and conservative "experts"
justifying the war as if they were neutral observers; ignore contrary
views except when an expert is on hand to ridicule them and label
them "conspiracy theories"; and never put it all together
in a coherent enlightening manner. [There is a] constant drip-drip
of one- sided information, from sources who can be described as
stenographers for the powers-that-be."
William Blum
"Perhaps the most basic
reason Americans should read Noam Chomsky's work today, is simply
to understand the real world in which they live, that which is
obscured by their leaders and the U.S. mass media."
Fred Branfman
"The involvement of the
Rockefellers with the media has multiple implications. One is
that the Rockefeller gang's plans for monopolistic World Government
are never, but never, discussed in the machines of mass disinformation.
The media decides what the issues will be in the country."
Gary Allen in his book "The
Rockefeller File"
"We are grateful to the
Washington Post, the New York Times, Time magazine and other great
publications, whose directors have attended our meetings and respected
their promises of discretion for almost forty years."(He
went on to explain:)'It would have been impossible for us to develop
our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights
of publicity during those years. But, the world is more sophisticated
and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational
sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely
preferable to the national auto determination practiced in past
centuries."
David Rockefeller at the 1991 meeting
of the Bilderberg Group
"Journalists who participate
in The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer are some of the best-known political
pundits in the United States, such as Paul Gigot, David Gergen,
William Kristol and William Safire. All of them belong to the
Bilderberg Group, the CFR or the Trilateral Commission."
